Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Epiphany Catholic Church July 10th, 2022
Parish Life Director Message The Jewish people had many commandments that could be summarized in two, love for God and love for your neighbor. Between these two commandments, both in those times and today, there is great tension, but both are inseparable. How is the love of God measured? Without loving your neighbor, loving God is easy and cheap: praying from time to time, lighting a candle, making a prayer of petition, or perhaps attending Mass. However, the real thermometer for measuring our love for God is the way we love the people around us. In the Gospel a teacher of the law who knew the commandments very well tried to put Jesus in trouble by asking him a few questions. Jesus affirmed the law of God and responded with the parable of the Good Samaritan to clarify that the love for our neighbor is at par with the love for God. In the story, in front of a victim assaulted by bandits passed two very religious people and then a third person, a Samaritan who we could say was a heretic or atheist, one who did not know the Bible. Valuing purity and temple attendance, the first two lovers of God could not attend to their neighbor. The third, a hated foreigner, saw the needy, took pity on him, and acted. Jesus concludes his teaching by saying to that literate man, "Go and do the same." Jesus is the Good Samaritan who comes to meet us on the journey of life. He takes pity and gives his life for us. Let us ask for the grace to love God unconditionally by acknowledging the suffering of our neighbor, by taking pity on the pain of our brother or sister, and by acting selflessly in favor of their needs.

Virtus Training The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is requiring that all ADULTS who work or volunteer, with or around children/youth/vulnerable adults, within the parish church, school, religious education, etc., paid as well as volunteers, attend a VIRTUS Training Session to be more aware of the safety of all of our children and youth.

Mensaje del Director de Vida Parroquial El pueblo judío tenía muchos mandamientos que podían resumirse en dos; amar a Dios y amar al prójimo. Entre estos dos mandamientos, tanto en aquellos tiempos como hoy, existe una gran tensión, pero en realidad ambos son inseparables. ¿Cómo se mide el amor a Dios? Sin amar al prójimo, el amar a Dios es fácil y barato: rezar de vez en cuando, prender una veladora, hacer una oración de petición, o tal vez asistir misa. Sin embargo, el verdadero termómetro para medir nuestro amor a Dios es la manera en que amamos las personas a nuestro alrededor. En el Evangelio un maestro de la ley que sabia bien los mandamientos intentó poner a Jesús en apuros haciéndole unas preguntas. Jesús afirmó la ley de Dios y respondió con la parábola del buen samaritano para aclarar que el amor al prójimo esta al par con el amor a Dios. En la historia, frente a una victima asaltada por unos bandidos pasaron dos personas muy religiosas y luego una tercera persona, un samaritano que podríamos decir era un hereje o ateo, uno que no conocía la Biblia. Valorando la pureza y la asistencia al templo, los primeros dos amantes de Dios no pudieron atender al prójimo. El tercero, un extranjero odiado, vio al necesitado, se compadeció, y actuó. Jesús concluye su enseñanza diciéndole a ese hombre letrado, "Anda y haz tú lo mismo." Jesús es el Buen Samaritano que sale a nuestro encuentro en el viaje de la vida. El se compadece y entrega su vida por nosotros. Pidamos la gracia de amar a Dios incondicionalmente reconociendo el sufrimiento de nuestro prójimo, compadeciéndonos del dolor de nuestros hermano o hermana y de actuar desinteresadamente a favor de sus necesidades. ¿Sabia Used Que?
