Faith Formation News
For all of our First Communion/Confirmation families the date of the ceremony will be Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2:00pm with Bishop Olmsted. Please mark your calendars now with these dates for two mandatory rehearsals. First Communion rehearsal will be Monday, April 18th from 6-7:30pm in the Church and Confirma-tion rehearsal, with sponsor, will be on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00-11:30am also in the Church.
There are no classes for Elementary Faith Formation this week. We will be on Winter Break until January 11th! The Catechists and I wish all of our Faith For-mation families God’s blessings in the New Year! Sacrament classes are now closed. Registration for all other classes is ongoing through the year. Catholic School students needing Sacrament Preparation need to register for second or third grade before classes resume on January 11th. The fee will be $35.00. They only need to attend the second semester.
I will be in Rome with the Pueri Cantores Choirs from December 26th through January 2nd. I plan to be back in the Office on Monday, January 4th. Please try to hold all calls until then and there will still be a week to register your Catholic School children for sacraments. As always, if you have any questions, comments or con-cerns about Elementary Faith Formation, Sacrament Preparation (Elementary, Middle or High School) or Adult Confirmation, please contact me at [email protected] or call me at the Parish Office, 480-661-9843 Ext. 309. Los Reyes Magos,
While most children in the United States are
accustomed to receiving gifts on Christmas Day, in many
Hispanic cultures, it is Epiphany, or the Day of the Three Kings, when gifts
celebrating the birth of Christ usually appear.
On the night of January 5, hay and a bucket of water are left outside the house
for the camels who carry the Magi. A box or old shoes are put under the bed in
which the Wise Men will leave gifts for the children. On the evening of January
6 families gather for dinner, and cut into the rosca de reyes, a ring-shaped
sweet bread decorated with candied fruit. Baked inside is a small figure of
baby Jesus. Whoever finds the figure in his or her piece will host the final feast
of the Christmas season, el día de la Candelaria on February 2. On that day
new clothes are presented to enrobe the figure of baby Jesus in the Nativity
scene of the family or the church. © Liturgical Publications Inc

We will have a guest speaker from Catholic Ministries who will be accompanying the missionaries to Jamaica in Janu-ary. She has experience in ministering to those in need from poverty, sickness, disease, malnutrition or abandonment. Her name is Rhonda McKenzie and she has gone to El Salvador and Ecuador. Rhonda is a very interesting person and we hope you are free to take advantage of this opportunity. All are welcome to attend.
The Ministry of Care delivers Eucharist to all those in our parish who are in rehab facilities, hospitals, group homes, assisted liv-ing centers, life care centers, skilled nursing facilities, and private homes.
