Chunky ribbed brim can be folded up or left as is for maximum slouchiness. The top of the hat has decreases that create a cool, decorative flower effect. FINISHED HAT CIRCUMFERENCE:Approx 16 ½" [42 cm] unstretched atbrim; stretches to 24" [61 cm]. Approx10 ½" [26.5 cm] total height.

One size fits most adults.

GAUGE  Widest part of 12-st Wide Cable Panel = 2 ½" [6.5 cm] and approx 16 rnds = 3" [7.5

cm] on size 10 ½ [6.5 mm] needles.

PATTERN STITCHESNOTES

1)  "C6B" (Cable 6 back): sl next 3 sts onto cn and hold in back of work, k3, k3 fromcn.

2)  "C6F" (Cable 6 front): sl next 3 sts onto cn and hold in front of work, k3, k3 fromcn. 

3)  "C4B" (Cable 4 back): sl next 2 sts onto cn and hold in back of work, k2, k2 fromcn.

WIDE CABLE PANEL (whenworked in the Rnd)

Worked over 12 sts:Rnd 1 [RS]: C6B, C6F. Rnds 2 through 8 [RS]: Knit.Rep these 8 rnds for patt.

SMALL CABLES (when worked in the Rnd)Worked over 4 sts:

Rnd 1 [RS]: C4B.Rnds 2 through 4 [RS]: Knit.

Rep these 4 rnds for patt.

KNITTING THE HATCO 60 sts evenly over 3 or 4 DPNs (i.e., 20 sts or 15 sts on each DPN). Join in the rnd with

a st marker to mark end of each rnd.Work in 2x2 Ribbing for Brim:

Rnd 1 [RS]: *K2, p2; rep from * arnd.Rnds 2 through 16: Rep rnd 1.

Inc Sts to Establish Cables:NOTE: "m1" = make 1 st by lifting up the strand (bet the needles) using the LEFT needle

from front to back, then knitting into the back of it to create a new st.

Rnd 17 [Inc 60]: *[P1, m1] 2 times, [k1, m1] 2 times, [p1, m1] 2 times, [k1, m1] 6times; rep from * 4 more times = 120 sts.

Switch to circular needles, if you prefer, by working this next rnd using the circular

needle.Rnd 18: [P4, k4, p4, k12] 5 times.

Begin Dec to Shape Cap:Rnd 47 [Twist Small Cables ONLY AND Dec 10]: [P2tog, p2, C4B, p2tog, p2, k12] 5times = 110 sts. Rnd 48 [Dec 10]: [P1, p2tog, k4, p1, p2tog, k12] 5 times = 100 sts.Rnd 49 [Dec 10]: [P2, k4, p2, k2, skp, k4, k2tog, k2] 5 times = 90 sts.

Rnd 50 [Dec 10]: [P2, k4, p2, k2, skp, k2, k2tog, k2] 5 times = 80 sts. Rnd 51 [Twist ALL Cables]: [P2, C4B, p2, sl 3 sts onto cn and hold in front, k1, k3from cn, sl 1 st onto cn and hold in back, k3, k1 from cn] 4 times, work instructions in

brackets one more time, BUT do not k1 from cn at the very end. Remove end-of-rnd stmarker, then sl this one st from the cn onto the LEFT needle (this st will get dec right

Cut yarn, leaving a 7" tail. Fasten off by threading yarn tail into yarn tapestry needle and

threading through all 35 sts on needle. Pull tightly to close top of hat.
