10 TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE
PUBLIC SPEAKING

TIP 1: Be thorough with the material. The more familiar you are with the topic of
speech or presentation they more confident you will appear.
TIP 2: Rehearse out loudly with all equipment you
plan on using i.e. laptop, pointer, cue card, etc. Practice with the appropriate pace and pauses.
TIP 3: Practice with a timer so you do not finish
your presentation too soon or over shoot the time.
TIP 4: Be well dressed. When you look good, you
will be more comfortable facing a large crowd.
Women wear appropriate makeup.
TIP 5: Have the right body language. Maintain a
good posture, have a pleasant facial expression, use hand gestures effectively.
TIP 6: Maintain eye contact, try and involve each
member in the audience.
TIP 7: Research and learn more about your
audience, so you can make the content as relatable to them as possible. In short, you can speak their language for maximum effectiveness.
TIP 8: Use humor, personal stories and
conversational language to make your presentation more interesting.
TIP 9: Use aids like a cue-cards or power points,
one cannot possibly remember everything
