Shape N Race Derby

This exciting event allows children to design, build, and race small wooden cars on an inclined wooden track, similar to the Boy Scouts’ Pinewood Derby. An event full of fun and prizes awaits all who participate. Children will not only enjoy the excitement of race day, they will learn hands-on skills and strengthen relationships as they build their cars. Our race will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2010 here at Faith Presbyterian Church thanks to the generous use of a track from Crossroads Presbyterian. Practice will begin Saturday morn-ing at 9:00 a.m. for anyone who wants to test his or her car. The race will begin at 10:00 a.m. with prizes awarded during the event. Family and friends are encouraged to attend this event. Light refreshments will be provided. Bring cookies to share if you are able.

Shape N Race Cars Only Shape N Race wood blocks, wheels, and axels are permitted (Pinewood Derby kits are not allowed). Kits cost only $5 (with a $15 maximum per family). Please turn in the registration form with payment to Pastor Kevin. You can complete the kit on your own at home or work on you car on the Wednes-day evenings leading up to the race . All final preparation can be completed on Wednesday night, March 3 which will be devoted entirely to Shape N Race. Start with the simple block of wood or start with one of three precut designs which we will provide. Specifications: Width: 2 ¾” max. (from outside wheel pins) Length: 7” max. Weight: 5 oz. max. Height: 2 ¼“ max. Cars will be inspected to make sure they meet the specifications prior to the race. Check out Christian Service Brigade’s website for some tips and design ideas:
