Welcome to the Market House, home to the Lebanon Farmers Market. The long and varied history of this location precedes even the construction of the Market House in 1892. This was the site of the former Lebanon County Jail that will be forever connected with the story of the Blue Eyed Six. In 1870

Fire destroyed the structure just a few years later. After the fiery destruction of the Lebanon County Jail, construction began on the Market House. In 1892 after nearly a two-year construction process the Lebanon Farmers Market was dedicated. Lebanon’s new market place was the place to be and be seen with all the ingredients for your favorite weekly meals. Chickens, fresh produce,

eggs, beef and milk were easily available and farm fresh at the Lebanon Market since it was one of the first places in Lebanon County to offer cold storage and refrigeration. In addition to the farmers market, the Market House has been occupied by a varied tenant list over the years. From the Lebanon Family Theatre featuring almost daily Vaudeville performances in the early days to being the home of the Crestview Secretarial School in the 1950s, the Market House has been home to many. But its longest tenant was the S. Kantor Sewing Company that operated in the building from the 1930s until just a few years ago. Lebanon had over 60 sewing factories at one time, but the S. Kantor Company remained strong despite

foreign competition. Over the years, the S. Kantor Company was responsible for over 10,000 Lebanon jobs. Other tenants have included Parry Printing and the Lebanon Stamp and Coin. The Farmers Market operated continuously at this location until the mid 1960s when it closed due to expansion of the sewing factory. In 2003, Lebanon Landmarks, Inc. owned by Bill Kolovani purchased the Market House as part of a downtown revitalization plan. In 2010, Lebanon Farmers Market LLC purchased the historic building from M&T bank. The Mission of the Lebanon Farmers Market is to provide a strong variety of quality, farm produce and handmade items to consumers of Lebanon County, in a clean, safe environment. Enjoy live music every Thursday from 11am-1pm. “Police, Read to Me” is a children’s program that was started in August 2016. A Lebanon City Police Officer reads a story to children. Each child is sent home with a free book. The reading takes place on the third Saturday of every month, at 11am, on the mezzanine level. Comunidad en la Ciudad

Life Center Lebanon is a community church that believes in impacting the City of Lebanon with the Kingdom of God. Established 3 years ago on Yom Kippur by Reynaldo and Doreen Soria. They were members of Life Center in Harrisburg for 9 years and wanted to bring the freedom and love that Life Center has to the City of Lebanon. The vision of our church is to passionately pursue God’s presence and restore His identity in His people. We are family church composed of 3 main couples with the Pastors - marriage is a core value and restoring Father’s and Mother’s to our community is our goal. We have a food bank and feed 10 to 20 families weekly and currently are setting up for a Christian Counselor to come and set up an office in the church as another outreach. Life Center Lebanon with St. James Church (the church we rent from) plan activities to reach out the community. We have food trucks come, Christmas and Easter Celebrations, and had our first VBS this summer. By joining our sister church St. James we are hoping to demonstrate unity in the Body of Christ and encourage other churches to join forces to bless our city. Together we can accomplish so much more and be example of Christ to our community. Breaking the boundaries of denomination and culture. Focusing on what we have in common, celebrating diversity and the gift that we are to each other. Our vision is to see single Mom’s succeed and eradicate the fatherless generation. We believe strong families build strong cities. Poverty should not be the only option, but through education and mentorship with encouragement - we can see a change. Life Center Lebanon believes in building people and empowering them with the word of God. Our future goal is to be able to provide ESL for migrants and equipping them with skills to succeed and be an integral part of the city. Life Center Lebanon is always reaching out and desires to see the City of Lebanon be a forerunner of how the Kingdom of God can manifest in all areas such as commerce, education, family, government, and the arts. We bless and love our city.

Lebanon Quilters Guild is working to preserve Lebanon County’s rich quilting history and capture a snapshot of older quilts currently in the county through a series of free documentation days held this year and next.

Any pre-1970 quilt, quilt top, or comforter made in the county OR now owned by a county resident is eligible to be documented. A digital record will be compiled for future generations and quilt historians to use and enjoy.
