OCRE (SPANISH)
Principal pigmento natural.
COLOR
Amarillo, amarillo-pardo, rojo, pardo-rojo, marrn, marrn-castao, marrn-oscuro, amarillo-marrn, rojo
claro, negro-marrn.

OCHER (ENGLISH)
Main natural pigment.
Clay, yellow or brown earth, which is used in the manufacture of dyes for paints. Containing mainly iron
oxides (siltstones, hematite, mixed with Ox. Manganese)
CLASSIFICATION
- Ox Fe, yellow (yellow ocher) Limonite F2O3.H2O
- Yellow-orange ocher (syenite) changes to a brownish-red tint.
- Brown Ochre (Umbra or umber).
COMPOSITION
The composition of these pigments are variable, but the limonite and hematite are the main coloring agents.
Mixed exist in appreciable amounts of manganese oxide, clays, etc.
COLOR
Yellow, yellow-brown, red, brown-red, brown, brown-brown, dark-brown, yellow-brown, light red, black-
brown. Micaceous iron oxide pigment is used in the manufacture of anticorrosive paints; Australia remains
the largest producer in the world with annual TC 8000 (1972).
ORIGIN
The replacement deposits or precipitation are the main sources of hematite and ocher minerals. Are
deposited in cavities groundwater Fe salts almost free of impurities (in limestone, sandstone, shale),
especially when the mineral pyrite was an accessory. The most important deposits are usually found in
fractures and fault zones. Gossan form the hematite.
Hematite is also formed as inorganic precipitate or biogenetic in water and is deposited as the marshes.
Residual deposits of hematite that arise are usually enriched with elements and so named natural ores (Mn,
Ni, Cu). These residual deposits are irregularly shaped. Its reserves are negligible to very large, the amount of
iron reaches 60%. (Cr 1%. Ni 0.3% to 0.6%, Mn reaches several percentage units.)
AGE is formed in all ages, including Cambrian quartzites and limestones of the Paleozoic
OCCURRENCES IN PERU
- In the province of Chancay (Lima).
- In Ocucaje (Ica).
- In Ancash (holy river) are produced synthetic white home, benefits of ferrous deposit for obtaining
synthetic red ocher.
