fortheInternettobeginspeculatingonwhohemightbe,andaftersuggestionshemightbeRaiden

werequicklythrownoutduetothetimeperiod,fansdeducedthatElimustbetheoneandonly:

LiquidSnake.HowLikely Is It?Consideringthegametakesplace in1984(atwhichpointLiquid

wouldbe12yearsold)andElisphysicalcharacteristics,itseemsprettylikelythatheisthetwin

brotherofSolidSnake.LiquidsbackstorystatesthathewasmovedtoLondonshortlyafterhis

towardsthe

idea

that

perhaps

Skull

Face

was

Volgin,

who

had

somehow

survived

his

apparent

demiseinMGS3,andthiswasfurtherfueledbythefieryapparitionofVolginthatisseeninthe

hospitalsectionofThePhantomPain:foreshadowing,perhaps?Still,afarmoreinteresting(and

likely)suggestionisthatSkullFaceis,infact,MajorZerohimself.HowLikelyIsIt?HideoKojima

youthink it is.Whowouldbeamorenatural,expectedbadguythanZero?Inadditiontothis,

KojimahasalsocomparedSkullFacetoBatmansClayface,whichwhilequiteprobablyinreference

tohisliteralphysicalappearance,couldalsobeahintthat,likeClayface,SkullFaceisamasterof

disguise, and his grotesque appearance ismerely an elaboratemask.One key factorworking

againstthe

theory

is

that

Skull

Face

had

been

plotting

have

Zero

assassinated,

though

heis,infact,ayoungMantishimself.HowLikelyIsIt?Alright,soitsnotthatcrazy.Infact,wedbe

prettyshockedifthisdidntturnouttobetrue:givenhowmuchfanswouldlovetolearnmore

aboutMantispast,andhowlittleisreallyknownabouthisyouth,thisonehastobeonthemoney,

right?TheonlythingworkingagainstitisthatKojimacouldbeplayingusalittle,asitcouldvery

wellbeayoungfemaleunderthemask.GiventherathertragicnatureofMantischaracter,we

expecthellbeofusetoBigBossduringthegame,andhopefullywontjustberelegatedtoacameo

duringBossescapefromthehospital.9/10.

4 David Hayter Will Be Back

Hayter,thelongstandingvoiceactorforSolidSnakeandBigBoss,willapparentlynotbereturning

tovoiceBigBoss,withKieferSutherlandinsteadtakingonthepartasKojimawishedforanew

voiceforanewdirectionintheseries.Still,somecanthelpbutthinkthatthismayallbesome

formofanelaborateruse,andevenifHayterdoesntendupvoicingBigBossforthewholegame,

hemayhave contributed a voiceover roleof some kind. How Likely Is It?Itwouldbepretty

freakingridiculoustobringinanactorofKieferSutherlandsfame(andcost)forasmallrole,so

unlessthatbodydoubletheorypansout,wejustcantseethisonecomingtrue.Thatsaid, its

itmightbealittletooonthenosetodoanythingmorethanacameo,itwouldcertainlymakefor

oneofthemost(potentially)awesomemomentsintheMGSfranchise.HowLikelyIsIt?Ifyoung

Liquidreallyisinthemix,wecantimaginehowKojimacouldpossiblyresistintroducingustoan

adolescentSolidSnakeaswell.Thefanservicevalueissimplytoostrong,anditssomethingthats

rightatthetopofourwishlistforThePhantomPain.Extrapointsifheendsupdoingsomething

TheRumour:Alright,sothishasmostlybeenaplayfuljokekickedaroundtheInternetsofar,but

wouldntitberidiculouslycooliftheendcreditsmusicforThePhantomPainwereasectionfrom

PinkFloydsepicclassic,ShineOnYouCrazyDiamond?Considering thegame revolvesaround

DiamondDogs,BigBossplanstotransformtheremainsofthefallensoldiersintodiamonds,and

thefactthatdiamondscanbepickedupfromaroundthemaptoupgradeMotherBase,wouldnt

thisjustbeawonderfullyaptnoteonwhichtoendthegame?HowLikelyIsIt?Notvery.Kojima

clearlyhasatwistedsenseofhumourandisafanofWesternmusic(heoriginallywantedDavid

BowiesSpaceOddityandAshestoAshestoplayoverthecreditsofMGS3),butforstarters,gaining

clearanceforPinkFloydsmusic isnotoriouslydifficult,soeven ifhewereso inclined,hemight

havetosettleforacoverversion.Givenhowmanysongshecouldpossiblypick,itscertainlynot

Franchise

TheRumour:WesaythiseverytimeanewMetalGearSolidgamecomesout,butwillthisbethe

lastone?

Kojima

continues

to

work

on

the

franchise

despite

promising

that

practically

each

onewillbehislast,thoughifThePhantomPaintiesupBigBossstoryandgivesusnothingleftto

ponder,perhapsthiswillbetheendpointfortheseriesasweknowit?HowLikelyIsIt?Givenhow

commerciallysuccessfultheseries is, itsnotmassively likely.Thoughthegamecouldverywell

marktheendofanyBigBosscentricgames,aMetalGearSolidVIisalmostcertain,evenifitmight

notbecalledMGS6,andmightrevolvearoundacompletelynewcharacter inatotallydifferent

scenario.Given howMGS4 seemed like the perfect ending for the series yetMGS5 looks so

amazing,weresureKojimawillfindyetanother ingeniouswaytopullusback injustwhenwe

thoughtweweredonewiththefranchise.4/10.
