Top Ten Google TipsIn order of value from least to greatestBy: Heather Fish

SlidesI have added links to many of the slides that follow. These links allow you to get more information on the tips that I presented, and some of them take you to the site you need to download them.

Have fun!

Use Show Options to Refine Your Search When you get the results, use the

options menu to refine your search. I like this because it will allow you to

find what you want without looking through so many of the results.

Hundreds of results instead of thousands is less intimidating and more manageable.

Keyboard Shortcuts Web Link I use a few of these regularly, but some

of them are new to me. I appreciate the ease of not having to use the mouse more than I have to.

Take a look at the link to see what keystrokes may work for you.

Send Invites Web Link It seems silly to send party invites to

parents, but what if you used these invites to invite them to open house? It would make it seem more relaxed and maybe a few more parents would come if they received something more personal via e-mail or postal mail.

Search Specific Website Not all websites have a search option in

them. If you know the site you may find your

information you can still search that site through google.

For example if you want to find a recipe for porkchops on foodnetwork.com you type the following: Site:foodnetwork.com pork chops

Image Search Web Link I actually use this all the time when

creating PowerPoints. It is easy to copy and past images from

here when you find the ones you want. Just right click on the image, click copy image, and then paste into your presentation.

3-D Drawings Web Link As a math teacher and a math student I

think this is amazing! This will allow me to add 3-D shapes to

presentations I create for my students. This will also allow me to add 3-D

shapes to projects to my math assignments for college.

Yep, I’ve downloaded this!

Add Video to Documents/Presentations Web Link I like to show my students videos

sometimes just to drive home some concepts.

This allows me to add the clips without having to leave my presentation to show it.

AWESOME!

Group Projects Web Link This site is incredible. It allows teachers,

students, researchers, etc. to get together to get on-line to create lesson plans.

You can create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Everything is saved on-line and can be saved on your computer.

Waiting for Response Web Link This one is important to me because I

often forget to follow up on an e-mail I have sent to a parent.

This will remind me to follow up on a parent e-mail.

Consolidate E-mail Accounts Web Link If you are like me, you have multiple e-

mail accounts. My school requires a g-mail account, a regular school account, and then I have my college e-mail and personal e-mail.

At this location, I can have all my e-mail sent to one spot, so I can check it all at the same time. Amazing!

Other Google TipsThere are so many other Google tips out there.

If you search google tips in the Google search engine, you can find many other ways to make your on-line experience more efficient and enjoyable.
