Lana Del Rey – High By the Beach
Ever since I heard "Young and Beautiful" in The Great Gatsby soundtrack, I've become obsessed with Lana Del Rey and her music. I love how bad and beautiful she is. This is one of my favorites.
Hozier – Angel of Death and the Codeine Scene
Most people will recognize his hit "Take Me to Church", but I think his lesser known tracks are even better. This song has the added perk of having a really cool title.
Melanie Martinez – Milk and Cookies
This song is incredibly dark and twisted. It's about a woman murdering the man who wronged her, but it has a slightly playful sound to it. I can't help but love it.
Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit
If you are of my parents generation, then you likely know this song. If you’re under age 50 and you’ve heard of this, you’re wicked cool. This is sung by Grace Slick, my namesake. The lyrics are some of the coolest I've heard!
NF- Wait
I would describe this song as “hauntingly beautiful”. It’s about being unable to let go of a relationship that is unhealthy and doomed - something most of us can relate to.
Hurricane - Halsey
I’ve heard the radio play Halsey’s “New American” a few times, but this is by far her best song. Another hauntingly beautiful song, it’s about a sexy, independent woman who’s a “hurricane” in your life.
Banks - Change
This is a song about domestic violence. It's very sad, but equally powerful. I think it captures the helplessness and emotional turmoil of an abusive relationship very well.
A Fine Frenzy – Almost Lover
If things don’t work out with a crush, I listen to this song while dramatically wiping away tears. If your heart is hurting, I recommend listening to this song while eating a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.
Story of the Year – Anthem of our Dying Day
This is a throwback hardcore rock song. My favorite lyric in this song is:“From up here these city lights burn, like a thousand miles of fire”Not sure why I love it so much, but I always have.
Eberg – Inside Your Head
I first heard this song on The OC, which was my favorite show of all time during high school. It is kind of odd, but it always makes me smile and feel happy for some reason.
