10 Essentials for Networking
Set a goal for who you want to meet and what message you want to convey when you attend any networking events.
Have your networking tools with you at all times eg: business cards, badge, paper and pen
Listen and ask open questions. This is an important means of building trust, credibility and rapport.
Be able to describe your product or service in 60 seconds – be passionate and confident when you do this.
Write comments on the back of business cards. It will help you to remember who you have met.
Add value to your network – give more than you expect to receive and consider ways in which you can help those you meet.
Think of networking as an enjoyable way to meet new and interesting people. If you have that frame of mind you will be amazed at what you attract.
Think “host” not “guest” at any networking event.
Limit your time with each individual you meet – no matter how interesting they are!
Always follow up with people especially if there is an opportunity to grow an important relationship.
