He was an avid horseman wholoved his dogs and enjoyed playing guitar.On September 25, 1995 at Bowens Mills inBarry Co. he married Donna Mae Cook whosurvives. Frances en-joyed playing cards, bowling and was a won-derful seamstress. She was a member ofFarm Bureau for over 50 years and for manyyears was a member of Cooper Congrega-tional Church. On December 4, 1937 in La-grange, IN she married Claude Hiemstra.Surviving are 6 children, Roger (Janet) Hiem-stra of NY, Carl Hiemstra of MS, Judy (Mike)Hiemstra-Bronson of Allegan, Carol (Juan)Paez of NJ, Dennis (Mickie) Hiemstra of Ot-sego, Joyce Hiemstra Hunt of Gobles; 14grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 2great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Duane(Arlene) Anson; in-laws, Jesse LaRoy, Jean(Ron) Rus, Virginia Hiemstra; many nieces,nephews, and cousins. Air Force. Nelson worked for GM for 28½years retiring in 1993. In his leisure time heenjoyed building model airplanes and had aninterest in anything to do with planes and fly-ing; he enjoyed working with wood; campingand spending time with his family. He was amember of Otsego Elks Lodge. On January29, 1972 he married Marilyn Filtenborg whosurvives. Also surviving are his children,William Norton of SC and Lucinda of Ohio;step children, Daniel (Lynn) Filtenborg ofShelbyville and Lisa Wheat of Three Rivers;6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren andhis siblings, Bonnie, Carolyn, Louise andFay. He was preceded in death by his par-ents. Cremation has taken place and a me-morial service may be planned in the future.Donations in memory of Nelson may bemade to the Alzheimer’s Association.

evidence of the difference Churches make in thiscommunity, there is no better evidence than ourCommunity Food Pantry and Helping Agency,"Christian Neighbors." "Christian Neighbors" wasbegun by Pastors and local Churches in ourCommunity back in 1983 (30 years ago). Today,"Christian Neighbors" is the Community FoodPantry and Helping Agency in our area,recognized by County Agencies as the primaryhelping agency for our area. I am excited as we celebrate the 30th Birthday

of "Christian Neighbors" culminating with a seriesof activities on October 12 and a Birthday PartyPraise Celebration on October 13, at 6:00 p.m.hosted by the Otsego Baptist Church. I also am very proud to say that my wife, Terri

Shaler, who is the Executive Director of "ChristianNeighbors," carries out her ministry andresponsibilities with care and compassion forpeople in need. Her leadership has beeninstrumental in the continued growth at "ChristianNeighbors," leading to increased opportunities tooffer help and hope to those in need in ourCommunity.
