Discrete Item Questions

Discrete point testing refers to the testing of one element at a

time, item by item. This might involve, for example, a series of items

each testing a particular grammatical structure.

Discrete point tests will almost always be indirect.

Some common discrete item testing techniques

I. GAP – FILL

1.Single sentence

Fill in the blanks. Use only one word in each space.I’d …………….go to the café than the pub.(if answers of more than one word are allowed then other answers are possible; instructions need to be clear )

2. Cloze

A cloze test is a gap-fill exercise using a longer text and with a consistent number of words between gaps (eg every ninth word). The word “cloze” is often incorrectly used to describe any gap-filling task.
