Pentecost is the great feast that marks

the birth of the Christian Church by the

power of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost

means ‘fiftieth day ‘ and is celebrated

fifty days after Easter.

During the first Pentecost, the Holy

Spirit descended upon the Apostles

and those in the upper room. Tongues of fire appeared over

them and they were filled with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit

empowered them, giving the apostles the gifts and fruits

necessary to fulfill their great commission - to go out and

preach the Gospel to all nations.

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:1–4

May the Holy Spirit bless us and strengthen us. You were revealed to the followers of Jesus in a mighty wind, and you touched them with tongues of fire. Fill our hearts with your fire and wind as we journey through our days.

Amen.

Mary’s Message

Return to School How beautiful to look out my window today, to see our P-2 children play-ing so happily in the sun. It made the sun shine even brighter! The return to school for our Junior children has been so smooth. I thank you parents for the positive way you have embraced this return. I appreciate there are many reservations and worries associated with this new stage of our re-sponse to Covid-19 and appreciate how well you have supported your children and the school in this. Next week will present some more challenges I’m sure, but together we will get through them and move on to bigger and better things. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns we can help you with. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers and support staff of St Paul Apostle North. The adjustments they have had to make to their work life and their family life, on such short notice, have been enormous. Every single staff member has gone over and above in their care and their professionalism. Your children are very lucky to have such a dedicated and innovative group of people who truly care for the happiness, as well as the education of every one of your children.

Your Feedback

Although there have been some quite challenging aspects to these past weeks, some very positive things have emerged. My hope and prayer is that anything that has emerged that is an improvement on the way things were done before will be retained, and that anything we have let go of that we were doing just because it’s always been done that way, will not be returned to without a good reason. Next week we will be sending home a short survey asking for your opinion on what worked well during remote learning and the things that maybe could have been done better or not done at all. I would ask that every family take the time to give your feedback, as we will be analysing your responses, along with those of the staff and of the students themselves, and using this data to plan for the very best future for our wonderful school and our school community.

If you are a handyman (person) who is able to do a bit more than general garden tidying up, we would particularly appreciate some advice and assis-tance with some general repair jobs.

Enrolments

Please note that, since some restrictions have been lifted, our enrolments are filling up fast. If you know of anyone who is thinking of enrolling their child for next year’s Prep, please encourage them to call into the office for an enrolment form or download one from our website and email it to the school. We are happy to do one on one school tours or to chat via Google Meet, Zoom or Skype. Wishing everyone a lovely long weekend and may God keep you and your family in the palm of His hand.

School Improvement

For those of you who have not been past the school for some time, you will find a few differences. Unfortunately, things have not gone as quickly as I had hoped and our facelift is still in progress. Hopefully when we come back after the holi-days all will be revealed!! One thing we do plan for the future is to extend our Kitchen Garden Pro-gram and our Outdoor Learning Program to include the whole school in different ways. We are calling for volunteers, particularly keen veggie gar-deners, to be involved in whatever way they feel they can. A very special thanks needs to go here to the Ganon Family who have been tending our chooks with special care for the whole of our Remote Learning Period. The girls are all particularly content and all laying regularly.

Your Help is Needed

As we have not been able to have a Working Bee for many months, there are a number of yard tidying and general clean up jobs needing to be done around the school. We will not be able to call a Working Bee for the foreseeable future, but ask that, if you have some time on your hands once the children are back at school, and have a Working With Children’s Card, we would welcome your assistance on a one on one basis. If you think you would be able to help, please ring the office and we can work something out.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: Grades Prep -6 RETURN TO SCHOOL

PLEASE NOTE NEW STAGGERED TIMES FOR START AND FINISH OF SCHOOL Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you for your amazing cooperation and support during this staged return to school. Last week was such a smooth transition it was hard to believe our P-2 chil-dren had ever been away. Looking forward to next week when our whole school will be together again, there will need to be some more adjustments made and we ask that you please be pa-tient with the changes and please feedback any concerns you have. From Next Tuesday, families whose surname begins with A through to L will begin school at 8:50am and finish at 3:10pm. Families whose surname begins with M through to Z will begin school at 9:00am and finish at 3:20pm. You may still enter and leave from either the front or the back of the school and both areas will be strictly drop off and pick up. If this presents too much of a problem for your family, please get in touch with me, Mrs Lucas on 9700 6068, and we can discuss your concerns. I appreciate that there has been some confusion about the exact return date for our 3-6 students. We had initially decided to call a Report Writing Day on Tuesday, June 9th, but, after consideration decided that the date June 9th had been adver-tised so widely by the government and the Catholic Education Office, this might be too confusing for families. We changed the return date back to Tuesday, but, unfor-tunately did not change it in the newsletter. Therefore, we are allowing families to choose which return date suits them best. If you are ready to return on Tues-day, June 9th we will welcome you on that day. If, however, you are thinking of returning on Wednesday, June 10th, then that is perfectly fine too. By Wednesday we should all be back as one family. As you can appreciate reports will, of necessity, look quite different from our usual First Semester Reports. Teachers have been keeping records of work tasks done remotely, but every child and every family has had their own difficulties and the work presented may not be an accurate representation of your child’s ability. We are also very aware of the fact that many children will find it difficult to return to onsite schooling and there may be a lot of angst. We therefore have decided not to bombard the children with assessment tasks merely for the purpose of writing a re-port, but rather establish good learning routines for the remainder of the term. The modified report we will be sending out will be online, rather than in paper form, and we will keep you updated over the next few weeks about how you will access it. Thank you once again for your continued support and we look forward to all our children being back to school next week.
