RF Power Infrastructure

What do we have to do?

Site four amplifiersHere, behind the wallAnd through the landingThey weigh 1 tonne andAre 1*1*3 metre

Design and install theDistribution network ofWaveguides to the Cooling channelUnder the false floorHere – or hereabouts

Design, procure andInstall shielding Against x-raysIf found to be necessary

Fully understand andDocument the RFSafety caseAnd Install an RFEngineer resident at RAL!

Ensure that 2MVALocal power upgradeIs funded and installed in time

RF Infrastructure

What’s happened so far?– Modular false floor design being installed now– Allows a realistic number of variations to waveguide

layout– Productive review of RF in October 2008, included

infrastructure– Identified course of action for setting waveguide

configuration– Essential we know it soon, because:

• It affects the schedule• It’s sure to be very manpower intensive – need to know

early• Design work needs to start soon

– RAL integration & design team has visited DL – started to work out how to handle/install amplifiers

RF Infrastructure

What do we need to know?– Baseline configuration for waveguides and other

components – this is top priority– Whether operation with SF6 gas is required– Likely need for X-ray shielding and if so what material,

thickness & location– The local power upgrade is vital – currently do not

know if this can be funded
