1 Peter 4 : 6 - 11
Sensing God’s Presence in Seasons of Suffering
Part 2
1 Peter 4:6For for this cause was the gospel
preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the
spirit. (KJV)
That is why the Good News was preached to those who are now dead—so although they were destined to die like all people,
they now live forever with God in the Spirit. (NLT)
What the world may call foolishness, God often sees as faithfulness.
Matthew 5: 11 – 12Blessed are ye, when men shall revile
you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you
falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for
so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
How does the Word change the way I live?
There’s nothing more Jesus in this world than laying your life down
for those that will offer you nothing in return.
1 Peter 4:7But the end of all things is at hand: be
ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. (KJV)
The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and
disciplined in your prayers. (NLT)
Suffering keeps us focused on eternity.
1 Peter 4 : 8And above all things have fervent
charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of
sins. (KJV)
Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for
love covers a multitude of sins. (NLT)
Zeo(dzeh'-o) 1) to boil with heat, be hot a) used of water b) metaphor
1) used of boiling anger, love, zeal,
for what is good or bad etc. 2) fervent in spirit, said of zeal for what is good
Proverbs 19:11
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass
over a transgression.
Genuine love overlooks the faultsin others and furthers the work of
God.
1 Peter 4:9Use hospitality one to another
without grudging. (KJV)
Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place
to stay. (NLT)
How intentional are we about getting into each others lives in order to
show love & hospitality?
How many of us will accept the challenge to love and care for this
family.
1 Peter 4 : 10As every man hath received the gift,
even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the
manifold grace of God. (KJV)
God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts.
Use them well to serve one another. (NLT)
How many of us see the infinite valuein our spiritual gift?
1 Peter 4 : 11If any man speak, let him speak as
the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the
ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified
through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and
ever. Amen. (KJV)
1 Peter 4 : 11Do you have the gift of speaking?
Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do
you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength
and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever
and ever! Amen. (NLT)
Suffering and persecution frees you to minister to others.
It frees you to do what you’ve always been called to do,
share what you have.
Suffering and Pain can…• Free me from the grip of sin.
• Cause me to think more spiritually.• Remind me that I’m in good company.
• Keep me focused on eternity.• Cause me to care for the faith community.• Change the way I love & show hospitality.
• Increase my heart to give unselfishly.• Enable me to serve in several new ways.
