Paul moved to the United States in 1977 and became a citizen in 1984. He was adopted into the Yakima and Sioux Native American tribes as an honorary member by Chief Edgar Red Cloud. He was given the Indian name Wakinyan Chikala, or “Little Thunder”. Today, Paul lives with his wife in Rapids City, South Dakota, where he continues to write and illustrate.
