HEALTHY RECIPE OF THE MONTH
African Spiced Turkey with
Avocado-Grapefruit Relish
Yield: 4 servings Ingredients
• 2 large seedless grapefruit
• 1 avocado, peeled, pitted and diced
• 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
• 2 T chopped cilantro
• 1 T chopped mint
• 1 T red-wine vinegar
• 1 T honey
• 1/4 cup mild chili powder
• 1/2 tsp ground cloves
• 1/2 tsp ground allspice
• 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 1 pound turkey cutlets or chicken breasts
• 2 tsp canola oil
Preparation
Preheat oven to 400
Remove the skin and cut the grapefruit segments from the surrounding membrane, letting them drop into a bowl. Add avocados, onions, cilantro, mint, vinegar and honey. Toss well to combine and set aside.
Stir together chili powder, cloves, allspice, cinnamon and salt in a shallow dish. Dredge turkey cutlets in the spice mixture, shaking off the excess.
Heat oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add the cutlets and cook, shaking the pan, until they begin to brown on the outside, about 1 minute. Turn the cutlets over and transfer the skillet to the oven. Bake until the turkey is no longer pink in the center, 4 to 6 minutes.
Arrange the turkey cutlets on a platter or individual plates and spoon the avocado-grapefruit relish on top.

Personal Training Pays Off
“I was paired up with Julia in August 2010. I was
looking for a sports type training because I am an
avid skier and downhill mountain biker. To reach my
fitness goals my program included lots of legs, core,
and plyometric exercises. As I’ve gotten stronger my
workouts have become increasingly harder and more
physically demanding. It has gotten to a point where I
will egg Julia on to try and break me. All this hard
work on both Julia’s and my part has given me huge
gains in appearance, stamina, and strength. I have
had the best ski season ever. My legs are rock solid.
I am able to hike the ridgelines higher and faster than
ever before, and still have lots left in the tank for
powerful and controlled descents.
The mountain biking season is starting up and my
first trip was yesterday. I pedaled my 40lb free ride
bike with a single front sprocket up Mt Tzhouhalm in
full riding gear. I have never been able to do that. It is
great to apply all this hard work and see such
rewarding results. I am so motivated to keep going
and can’t wait to see what next year will bring. Thank
you Julia!” - Steve Hornick
Reality TV Dinner Another reason to cut down on tube time
Be grateful that your PVR lets you zip past the
commercials. The average food items you’re likely to
see advertised on TV can contain at least three days’
worth of fat and sugar, and far less than the
recommended daily servings of fruit, veggies and
dairy.
The chart below breaks down the nutritional
shortcomings of the foods most commonly promoted
on TV, compared to what you should be really having
each day.

Step 360 Pro Introducing a NEW class with NEW equipment
By: Lisa Denomme, Programmer/Instructor
Take a Bosu and a traditional stepper - put them together
and you have a Step 360 Pro. Believe me; it’s not as easy
as it looks. It truly requires good focus and is as
challenging as any product I've ever been on.
The wobble of the two air chambers forces your core
muscles to engage, while the surface on top allows users'
feet to be level, which mimics the real world. The Step
360 Pro promotes good mechanics and body alignment
with its safe platform. It gives you just the right amount of
stability whether you are implementing balance postures
or full on vertical plyometrics! Throughout your workout
not only will you feel all of your little connective tissues
firing for maximum results, but more importantly, its
structure/base is so well designed that your footing
always feels secure.
There are notches along the edge to hook in resistance
bands and perform a range of strength-training moves,
from lateral raises to chest presses. Side hand grips make
push-ups pleasant but still not easy. And the top is slightly
cushioned, which makes it more comfortable.
The Step 360 is getting rave reviews in the US and Club
Phoenix is the first gym in Canada to launch the product
in a group exercise format.
Don’t miss our class launch on Saturday April 9 at 9am
and 10am. Space will be limited so get there early! We’ll
break the class down in true 360 style – 3 -minute sets
with 6 phases of training and 0 rest. Each 18-minute
series touches on flexibility, strength, balance and
explosive power and will leave you breathless, especially
if we end with alternating jumping lunges with a medicine
ball! See you there.
At the World Fitness
Conference in Los
Angeles, I was one of
the lucky ones to try
the new Step 360 Pro.
If the goal was to leave
participants pumped
and excited about a
new product – mission
accomplished!
