How can we understand the Earth?
To understand the Earth, we have divided it into FOUR hemispheres
The line that cuts across the middle is called the equator
The line that cuts it up and down is called the prime meridian

Latitude measures distance North and South of equator in degrees
Latitude lines are parallel. They never meet.
Longitude
Longitude measures East and West of the Prime Meridian in Degrees
Lines of longitude all meet at North and South Poles
How do they work together?
Latitude and longitude work together to form a grid on the earth’s surface
Absolute Location: The exact location and coordinates of a place
Relative Location: The location of a place described by landmarks
