Unix – a brief history developed in 1969 by a group of AT&T employees at
Bell Labs, including Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan, Douglas McIlroy, Michael Lesk and Joe Ossanna, to enable them to work on the first small computers.
Until then all computers were huge and expensive; therefore they were shared by many users.
A good operating system was: Multics
At first Unix was given to universities, including its source code. This made it very popular with a generation of software engineers. Then Bell Labs started to charge for it!

towards others")
Other well-known Linux distributions include: Arch Linux, Knoppix, BackTrack, Kubuntu (the KDE version of
Ubuntu), Linux Mint, Xubuntu
