The Start
• Swimmers should report before the race is under the Starter’s orders (ideally 1-2 heats in advance).
If a swimmer appears after the Starter has taken control ask them to wait then inform the Chief Timekeeper who will inform the referee.
• Position yourself so that you can clearly see the flash
• Ensure the time on the watch is clear
• Hold the watch firmly and motionless
• Use index finger
