King Asa was the third king of Judah after the

nation split.

Asa did that which was good and right in the

eyes of the Lord.

God gave him a great victory over a 1,000,000 man army from Ethiopia.

10 years of peace

1 Kings 15 11 And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. 12 And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

When we would do right, we must first turn from wrong; repent.

Does not make you

right.

1 Kings 15:13 And also Maachah his mother, even her he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove; and Asa destroyed her idol, and burnt it by the brook Kidron.

Right starts at home.It matters not how good you are at church, if you are a devil at home, you are wrong.

Perhaps the hardest sin to deal with is sin in your own family.

Now understand, Asa was king; he had power and authority over his grandma.

We don’t have authority over our parents or brothers and sisters, or our wife or husband.

But we don’t have to participate in their sins.

Page 6: 1 kings 15b

6

Just because something is difficult does not mean that we are excused from obeying God.

Obey The Lord in things big and small, difficult or easy.

He is the Lord, our God.

Page 7: 1 kings 15b

14 But the high places were not removed: nevertheless Asa's heart was perfect (completely)

with the LORD all his days.

He didn’t get everything done that he wanted to do, but he didn’t tolerate idolatry in the nation.

His heart was completely toward God.

His only desire was to serve the True God.

A divided mind will bring sin into our lives, and it will put

distance between us and God.

James 4 8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be single-mindedly devoted

unto The Lord.

15 And he brought in the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which himself had dedicated, into the house of the LORD, silver, and gold, and vessels.

These are things taken in battle and set aside to be kept in the house of The Lord.

16 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. 17 And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

These wars began in the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign. 2 Chronicles 16:1

11

18 Then Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants: and king Asa sent them to Benhadad, the son of Tabrimon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

Asa is making a huge mistake in doing this.

Even good men can fail in trusting God.

Page 12: 1 kings 15b

12

19 There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me. 20 So Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the hosts which he had against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abelbethmaachah, and all Cinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.

A pact with the devil.

Page 13: 1 kings 15b

13

God had given Asa wonderful victories over far greater foes than Baasha.

Why now did he try to solve it himself?

Human NatureHuman Nature is

corrupt.

Page 14: 1 kings 15b

14

21 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building of Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.

Baasha heard of Benhadad’s attack on

his northern cities.

Page 15: 1 kings 15b

15

22 Then king Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah; none was exempted: and they took away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.

Now Asa controls the border.

His plan worked.

Page 16: 1 kings 15b

2 Chronicles 16 7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.

8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims (Libyans) a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the LORD, He delivered them into thine hand.

But, did his plan really work?

Page 17: 1 kings 15b

17

9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro through-out the whole earth, to shew Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect (completely) toward Him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. 10 Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

His plan worked, but God was not pleased.

Page 18: 1 kings 15b

18

2 Chronicles 16 12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians. 13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

Asa’s life started well, but ended in tragedy, because he quit trusting in God.

He began to think that he had won the victories; he wanted credit.

Ephesians 5 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

That’s how we keep it straight.
