Encourage independence shown when attempting homework.

• Study Space …
– Consistent– Organized with
little or no clutter– No distractions

– Dictionary, thesaurus and atlas
– Computer access– School books– Assignment pad
or planner
• Tools …– Good lighting– Desk/table with
chair– Pens, pencils,
scratch paper, good paper

• Be consistent• Build on first successes• Praise every effort for good

Remember, “follow-through” is the key to a successful homework experience.

• Does not do his or her best work• Refuses to do homework• Fails to bring homework home• Takes all night to complete assignments• Won’t do homework on his or her own• Waits until last minute to do homework• Won’t do homework if you’re not home• Your special problem

• Suggestions:– State expectations
use the 3-Cs
– Check knowledge of materials and reading skills
– Set consequences “no homework = no privileges”
– Work with classroom teacher
– Enforce mandatory homework time
