India is the undisputed leader in manufacturing of
diamonds globally and Surat is the hub of diamond
business in India wherein 11 out of 12 diamonds in the
world are cut and polished in India. Russia is a significant partner for the Indian gems and jewellery
and the trade ties go back to decades. Over the years India & Russia have formed a symbiotic
relationship to import rough diamonds and export gold jewellery and colored stones to them. The BSM
is another step to strengthen the ties and explore newer business opportunities beneficial to both
nations.
Mr. Bakul Mehta, Convener – Diamond Panel, GJEPC in

opportunity for the Russian buyers to have a dialogue
with the final parties involved in the production process
for sourcing competitively, but also to get an overview
of behind the scenes activity involved in the production
process and the ethical practices being followed in the
cutting and polishing of diamond stones in the Indian
market.
Mr. Alex Popov, President of Moscow Diamond Bourse (MDB) urged Indian
Diamond manufacturers to consider Russia as a good trading nation as
Russia has 7000+ jewellery stores. He also wished that the trade between
two nations will reach to its height, when import of roughs & export of
polished diamonds will be equal
