52

Cres Cor cabinets have a full internal frame. All

competitive models use uni-body construction

Cres Cor’s heavy-duty internal framework is made of 18 ga.

304 stainless steel

The Winston C-Vap obviously has no internal

frame.

The F.W.E. cabinet has reinforcing plates in all

corners.

Carter Hoffmann has no internal frame or reinforcements.

53

Cres Cor cabinets have a full length air tunnel.

Cres Cor’s full length air tunnel is mounted on the

back and provides even heat distribution throughout. On pass-thru cabinets the air

tunnel is located on the sides.

The Winston Cabinet has no air tunnel.

They rely on the fact that heat rises. How even would the heat in the cabinet be?

The F.W.E. Cabinet has no air tunnel. They rely strictly

on the blower motor to distribute the air.

Carter Hoffmann has no air tunnel. They

rely solely on the fan to circulate air.

54

Cres Cor cabinets have recessed push/pull handles

Cres Cor’s handles are mounted inboard and have an

easy-grip finish.

Winston does not have handles.

F.W.E. has inset stainless steel handles. Steel handles have a tendency to get hot.

Carter Hoffmann has protruding handles.

55

Cres Cor cabinets have coved corners.

Cres Cor’s corners are coved, both vertical & horizontal for

easier cleaning. They are sealed so water cannot seep

into the insulation.

Winston has square corners and exposed internal hardware.

F.W.E. has only vertical coved corners. Horizontal

corners are square.

Carter Hoffmann has square corners.

56

Cres Cor AquaTemp cabinets have a 3 gal.

capactiy water pan with a 2000 Watt Firebar

immersible water heater.

Cres Cor’s water pan is sloped towards the front for

easy drainage.

Winston’s water pan capacity is equal to Cres Cor. Heater is located beneath the water pan.

F.W.E.’s water pan is removable with 2 qt. capacity.

Element is drop-in style.

Carter Hoffmann unit shown is non-humidity and does not have

a water pan. (Their new spec sheet indicates they include a

water pan, no capacity noted.)

57

Cres Cor pan slides are extruded aluminum,

adjustable on 1 1/2” centers. Our standard non-humidity cabinets have wire angles.

Cres Cor’s aluminum angles are non-corrosive and high in

heat retention (heat sink).

Winston has adjustable, wire angles.

F.W.E. also has adjustable, wire angles.

Carter Hoffmann has adjustable steel slides

58

Cres Cor cabinets have 2” insulation

Cres Cor’s insulation is the thickest in the industry.

Winston’s insulation is 1-1/2”. The bottom is not

insulated.

F.W.E. has only 1” of insulation.

Carter Hoffmann has 1” wrap around insulation.

59

Cabinet Power Unit Cabinet Power Unit ComparisonComparison

Wattage / Amperage Construction Cord & Plug Controls Efficiency

60

The Cres Cor AquaTemp cabinet is 2000 watts, 20 amps. The non-humidity cabinets are 1500 watts,

15 amps.

Cres Cor’s Energy Logic Management System knows when to turn the heaters on

and off.

Winston is 2000 watts, 20 amps. F.W.E. is 1500 watts, 15 amps.

Carter Hoffmann is now 1500 watts; our sample is

1650 watts, 15 amps.

61

Cres Cor power unit construction is top mounted, is easily

accessible for service, sealed off from the cabinet.

Cres Cor’s power unit construction allows for hose-

out cleaning.

Winston’s power unit has a built in “cockroach hotel” with top mounted controls

and exposed elements in the bottom of the cabinet. One

might wonder how NSF approved them.

F.W.E. has a bottom mounted power unit,

exposed element, removable with use of tools. Inhibits proper cleaning of cabinet.

Carter Hoffmann’s power unit is easy to remove & replace.

Good thing!

62

Cres Cor’s AquaTemp has an 8’ cord. The std hot

cabinets have a 10’ cord. Cord comes out of the top; cord clip included.

Cres Cor’s cord is the right length to plug into the wall or

ceiling drops.

Winston has a 6’ power cord that comes out of the top, cord clip also

included.

F.W.E. has a 9’ power cord that comes out of the bottom side. No cord clip

provided.

Carter Hoffmann’s 10’ cord comes out the front. There’s a cord wrap on

front of power unit.

63

Cres Cor controls are top mounted and at eye level, easy to understand, and settings are done by 1-10

numbers.

Cres Cor uses the numbering system rather than

temperatures.

Winston’s controls are top mounted and are set

by temperature.

F.W.E. controls are side mounted, air is set by

temperature, moisture set by number.

Carter Hoffmann uses degree settings on

bottom mounted power unit. Can’t see controls

with door closed.

64

Cabinet Door(s) ComparisonCabinet Door(s) Comparison

Dutch Doors Construction Insulation Pan Stops Latches & Handles Hinges Gaskets

65

All full-size, insulated Cres Cor cabinets are supplied

with Dutch doors.

Cres Cor’s insulated Dutch doors help reduce heat loss.

Winston supplies Dutch doors as standard.

Dutch doors are an optional accessory for F.W.E.

Carter Hoffmann cabinet has a full length door.

66

Cres Cor doors have an internal frame construction. Door hardware is attached

to the frame.

Cres Cor’s internal frame not only allows a more secure

means for attaching hardware, it also prevents

doors from sagging.

Winston’s doors have no internal frame which

means their hardware is secured only to sheet

metal.

F.W.E.’s doors have no frame however

reinforcing plates are located at fittings.

Carter Hoffmann’s door has no frame, therefore, the

hardware is attached to sheet metal only.

67

Cres Cor doors have 1-1/2” of insulation.

Cres Cor believes in the value of fully insulating our

products.

Winston’s doors also have 1-1/2” insulation. F.W.E.’s doors have 1”

insulation.Carter Hoffmann has 1” insulation in the door.

68

Cres Cor has pan stops embossed on the door

panels. The air tunnel acts as a rear pan stop.

Cres Cor’s embossed pan stops are easy to clean and they help provide adequate

air flow.

Winston has no pan stops.

F.W.E. has a pan stop only on the back.

Carter Hoffmann has no pan stops, front or back.

69

Cres Cor cabinets’ latches and handles are mounted

inboard, securely attached to the door frame.

Cres Cor’s easy to grab pull handles work with a

magnetic latch system. Mounted within the footprint

of the overall cabinet.

Winston has protruding extruded handles and

magnetic latches which are cut into the door and

have a gap – how did they get NSF approval?

F.W.E.’s handles protrude beyond the footprint of the

cabinet. They use a magnetic pull latch system

similar to Cres Cor.

Carter Hoffmann’s slide latch is flush mounted,

difficult to open and is not reliable for transport.

70

Cres Cor’s hinges are heavy duty chrome plated

steel.

Cres Cor’s hinges are mounted inboard; easily field

reversible.

Winston’s hinges are “homemade” and visibly

lighter duty. Anyone notice the door squeak.

F.W.E.’s hinge construction is similar to

Cres Cor however they are not lift off nor field

reversible.

Carter Hoffmann offers another version of a

“homemade” hinge. Door is not field reversible.

71

Cres Cor’s gaskets are one-piece silicone mounted to the door. Aluminum cabinets have magnetic one-piece gaskets.

Cres Cor’s gaskets are designed in one-piece for a

better seal.

Winston has a full perimeter gasket

mounted with exposed hardware.

F.W.E. mounts their gasket to the cabinet with exposed hardware. Each piece is

mounted separately, vertically & horizontally.

Carter Hoffmann’s gaskets are attached to three sides of

the door. Creates a loose seal.

72

Cabinet Base ComparisonCabinet Base Comparison

Base Bumpers Casters

73

Cres Cor cabinets have a one-piece .125 internal

aluminum base

On non-humidity cabinets, Cres Cor’s extended base

acts as a natural bumper and protects hardware.

Winston has no base – part of their unibody

construction.

F.W.E. has an internal welded tubular base frame –

not a one-piece base.

Carter Hoffmann’s unibody constructed cabinet sits on

top of a stainless steel tubular frame base.

74

Bumpers are an optional accessory for Cres Cor

cabinets.

Cres Cor offers bumpers for the bottom and top of the

cabinet for truck transport.

Winston does not offer a bumper option.

F.W.E. offers optional bumpers.

Bumper is standard on the Carter Hoffmann.

75

Cres Cor cabinets now have the new Advantage

casters, 5” diameter, each rated at 250# capacity.

Cres Cor’s caster bearings are sealed and permanently

lubricated.

Winston’s casters are 3” diameter; 5” diameter is

a no-charge option.

F.W.E. has 5” polyurethane casters with zerk fittings.

Carter Hoffmann has 5” polyurethane casters with

zerk fittings.
