Check out our Central Ave mix
Bike Shop
Choose a route that suits your destination or your curiosity. Don’t be
afraid to start small—with fewer people or slower traffic. And you may decide
to visit restaurants and sights along the way, so remember to bring a bike lock,
and check business hours ahead of time. Have fun exploring the community!
1 Bowers Retail Square 2500 S. Central Ave.
Bowers Retail Square was named to honor African American business icons and entrepreneurs Alice and Horace Bowers. They expanded their small dry cleaning into a block-long complex filled with several businesses along the South LA corridor.
2 27th Street Bakery2700 S. Central Ave.
Founded in 1956, the bustling 27th Street Bakery is an LA icon. It’s known for its incredible homemade sweet potato pies, but you’ll find a wide assortment of pies, cakes, and cobblers.
3 Central Ave Jazz Park 4222 S. Central Ave.
“I didn’t know where Sunset Boulevard was when I moved to L.A., but sure I knew Central,” legendary producer Quincy Jones once said. Central Avenue Jazz Park honors (and contin-ues!) this legacy of South LA.
4 Dunbar Hotel4225 S. Central Ave.
The Dunbar Hotel was once the most prestigious hotel in LA’s African-American community. A nightclub at the Dunbar was the center of the Central Avenue jazz scene in the 1930s and 1940s, hosting Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Lena Horne, and many other jazz legends.
5 Delicious at the Dunbar4229 S. Central Ave.
Delicious at the Dunbar touts itself as a combination of Mexican and Southern food, slinging out jambalaya and gumbo as well as mole poblano, southern breakfasts, and a handful of culturally-merged options like beef brisket enchiladas.
6 District 9 Constituent Services Center4301 S. Central Ave.
Stay civically engaged and take your community questions or concerns to your Council Member here!
7 Granny’s Kitchen 5440 S. Central Ave.
Known as one of the best southern-style soul food restaurants anywhere in LA County, this is a can’t-miss.
8 Tampico Spice Company5941 S. Central Ave.
In 1947 Jesus Martinez scraped together $35 to buy his first inventory of spices, which he immediately repackaged into small cellophane packets. He peddled his spices door-to-door to all the corner markets in the LA area. His $35 investment turned into a $50 profit, which he used to buy more spices. That’s the how Tampico Spice Company—and an incredible LA story—was born.
9 Ted Watkins Memorial Park1335 E. 103rd St.
Ted Watkins Memorial Park is 28-acre facility in South LA and a monumental piece of history. It’s home to numerous after school recreational activities for youth as well as the Promenade of Prominence Walk of Fame celebrating the accomplishments of community leaders.
10 Watts Civic Center1501 E. 103rd St.
Host to countless community organizations and events, from youth empowerment days to green energy expos.
