WHERE IS ?
• Abruzzo is a region in the centre of Italy stretching from the heart of the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea
• It borders the region of Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and south-west, Molise to the south-east, and the Adriatic Sea to the east

It’s divided up into 4 provinces:
• L’Aquila
• Pescara
• Teramo
• Chieti

L’Aquila
• It’s the capital city of the Abruzzo region • As of 2009, it has a population of 73,150 inhabitants, but has a daily presence in the
territory of 100,000 people for study, tertiary activities, jobs and tourism.• it is surrounded by the Appennine Mountains, with the Gran Sasso d’Italia to the north-
east• Home to the University of L’Aquila, it is a lively college town and, as such, has many
cultural institutions: a repertory theater, a symphony orchestra, a fine-arts academy, a state conservatory,a film institute.
• The city presents a tradition in the winter sports with 6 ski resorts which lie around the city
• Is also the seat of Abruzzo Local Government

THE EARTHQUAKEAn earthquake marks the history of L'Aquila. On April 6, 2009 at 3:32 an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck central Italy with its epicentre near L'Aquila.The earthquake caused damage to between 3,000 and 11,000 buildings in the medieval city of L'Aquila. Several buildings collapsed.308 people were killed and approximately 1,500 people were injured. Twenty of the victims were children. Around 65,000 people were made homeless.

Pescara
• Pescara is the capital city of the Province of Pescara• It’s the most populated city within Abruzzo • The city is located on the Adriatic coast at the mouth of the Aterno-Pescara River• The main commercial street of the city is Corso Umberto I, which runs from Piazza della
Repubblica and reaches the seacoast at Piazza Primo Maggio.• It hosts the faculties of Economics, Architecture, Foreign Languages and Literature at
Gabriele d'Annunzio University• Pescara has also an important international airport, called Abruzzo Airport and one of the
most important and major ports of Adriatic Sea

Chieti
• Chieti is the capital of the Province of Chieti• Chieti lies on a crest along the Pescara River a few kilometres away from the Adriatic
Sea, and with the Maiella and Gran Sasso mountains in the background.• The University of Chieti (Università G. d'Annunzio - Chieti e Pescara) is based in Chieti
and Pescara and hosts about 35,000 students

• Teramo is the capital of the province of Teramo.• The city is situated between the highest mountains of the Apennines (Gran Sasso
d’Italia) and the Adriatic coast.• The town is by the confluence of the Vezzola and Tordino rivers.• The economy of the town is based on activities connected with agriculture and
commerce, as well as a sound industrial sector: textiles, foods, engineering, building materials and ceramics
