I CANPhoenix House New England has developed a new adolescent treatment framework called I CAN: Investigate Strengths, Consider Possible Selves, Acquire Necessary Skills, Nurture Hope.
I CAN is positive. It highlights achievements and personal strengths rather than past mistakes and avoidance of trouble.
I CAN is individualized. Clients progress through treatment at their own pace according to their successes and personal strengths.
I CAN is experience-based. It’s based on actual experiences, since teenagers learn best by doing. Instead of reading about what a chef does, clients take a cooking class. Rather than discuss-ing how they might have fun sober, they go rock climbing.
I CAN understands the adolescent brain. Adolescents are not wired to think long-term. We help teens build better versions of themselves in the present—and real hope for the future.
At Phoenix House, we know that teenagers want to move ahead in a positive direction without the burden of past mistakes.
I CAN helps teens do things differently—and succeed.
We have treatment centers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
