GK Michael Harrigan

Brothers:

Unfortunately our fish fries are still in limbo. Bro. Roy is working hard to come to a mutually beneficial deal with the new owners of the hall. As if he wasn’t busy enough Roy is also spearheading our Coats for Kids program and setting up for our Christmas dinner. Thanks Roy, don’t know what we’d do without you.

Speaking of our Christmas dinner, it will be on December 11th and all the details can be found else-where in this issue. It is at this dinner that we make our major donations for the year and acknowledge those members who have achieved Honorary and Honorary Life status. It is also a time to get together with your fellow knights and their families for an evening of good food and camaraderie. I am looking forward to seeing you all there. Please mark the date on your calendars and remember to call for reservations so we have an accurate count for the kitchen.

At this joyous time of the year, my wife, Gail and I, would like to extend our deepest best wishes to all the families of Windsor Council 1453 for the happi-est, holiest Christmas season ever and a very happy and prosperous New Year.

Greetings Brothers and Others: Telling the KofC Story—Mark McMullen, Senior Vice President—Membership and Fraternal Mis-sion During this year's Supreme Convention, Su-preme Knight Carl Anderson told us, "The Knights of Columbus has a story to tell - a story of 137 years of service, sacrifice, and standing for truth. Our brotherhood is taking new steps to tell that story to the world." Among these steps are devel-oping engaging ways to explain who the Knights of Columbus is and the full breadth of our organiza-tion. Through these efforts to position the Knights of Columbus "brand" for a modern world. We are using new resources that will help your councils tell our many stories while projecting a clear and unified identity that the public can easily under-stand. One of these new resources is the new "I am a Knight" card. Share these with your councils and encourage them to use these resources at all council events, meeting, and drives this fall! Councils can order "I am a Knight" cards in all languages through Supplies Online. Soccer and Free Throw Competitions Each year Knights of Columbus councils host the annual Free Throw and Soccer competition designed for players ages 9-14 to demonstrate their skills in each respective sport. District deputies should plan to run the council competition, making all the necessary arrangements for site location, council notification and awards. Entry forms/score sheets of council winners should be given to the DD by the participating councils prior to the competi-tion. through Officers Online. For more infor-mation, please visit kofc.org/soccer or kofc.org/freethrow Coats for Kids – coats can be ordered through Supplies Online in the US and knightsgear.ca in Canada October is Pro-Life Month! Is your district ready for this year’s March for Life? As we march closer and closer to victory on behalf of the unborn, be sure to plan how your districts can participate in these historic events. On behalf of my lovely wife Dawn and our sons Joseph and Peter we wish you and your family a blessed Christmas season. Fraternally yours, Jesmond Tabone District Deputy 39 519.992.2014

Greetings Brothers:

Another November, another Memorial Mass, another scant turnout. There are positives I noted this time, we shared with Bishop Kidd Council, and was an impres-sive ceremony. We had about a dozen attend, DGK Bert, FS Ray and Linda, PGK Roy, myself and Paul Chesnik, Jackie Meloche was there too, and the Gauvins, probably a few more I never saw. Not many from their Council either, a few Officers, PGKs and a full Church.

We were represented. How sad to know how the mem-bers of an order built on fraternal support and family values so easily forget their deceased.

Enough of that bitching, now for some hopefully brighter thoughts.

I am preparing for our annual CHRISTmas gifting to our hospitalized, home bound and ill members. So far we have a few, on the list. If anyone thinks someone should be added let me know. Sometime before Dec. 15, I will purchase the plants required, I would appreci-ate some help delivering them, please call me.

Lin and I wish all of our members, families and friends a Very Holy and Merry Christmas, and a Happy Healthy New Year. May 2020bring you joy, peace and Love.

God Bless, Vivat Jesus

More Christmas Party 2017 pics

Windsor Council 1453 and KADEC, their building corporation, have once again donated to Local char-ities . The spirit of Christmas has traditionally, for a number of years, manifested itself by our helping others, as Ven. Father Michael J. McGiveny showed us. This Year, our hearts open up to Goodfelloows, St. Vincent de Paul and Street help $1500 ea. Our Lady of Guadaloupe House is getting $2000 and Julian Gaudet House is getting $1000.

KADEC also provides for our FREE Christmas party, and regularly support our causes. Thanks for the help.

You Can Make It “A Wonderful Life”

Unlike the character ‘George Bailey’ in the famous holiday movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life”,

none of us will have the opportunity of seeing our lives played out as though we had

never been born. However, like George Bailey, we cannot underestimate the powerful

impact we have in the lives of our families, friends and the community.

Our impact will be felt by others through our membership in the Knights of Columbus -

by volunteering as we are able - AND by making sure we have enough life insurance to

meet the needs of our loved ones.

Life insurance allows our families to remain in their homes and maintain their lifestyles.

It guarantees a college education for our children, and perhaps our grandchildren. It en-

sures for us a comfortable retirement. It can even help our favourite charities continue

their humanitarian work.

This holiday season consider becoming an insured member of the Knights of Columbus.

Give your family the gift of life insurance, and make it a “wonderful life” for those you

love.

A Blessed Christmas Season to you and your family.

REST IN PEACE ! I do not know of any of our members passing away since the last KnightLife. We do mourn the passing of Eileen Michon, widow of Bro. Wilfrid (Bill), who passed away recently.

Our Council expresses deepest sympathy to her families, friends and loved ones, and all

others not mentioned.

THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

The 12 Days of Christmas" is in a sense an allegory. Each of the items in the song represents some-

thing significant to the teachings of the Catholic faith. The hidden meaning of each gift was designed to

help Catholic children learn their faith. The song goes, "On the first day of Christmas my true love gave

to me…" The "true love" mentioned in the song refers to God Himself. The "me" who receives the pre-

sents refers to every baptized person. i.e. the Church.

1st Day: The partridge in a pear tree is Christ Jesus upon the Cross.

2nd Day: The "two turtle doves" refers to the Old and New Testaments.

3rd Day: The "three French hens" stand for faith, hope and love.

4th Day: The "four calling birds" refers to the four evangelists who wrote the

Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

5th Day: The "five golden rings" represents the first five books of the Bible, also called the Jewish Torah: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

6th Day: The "six geese a-laying" is the six days of creation.

7th Day: The "seven swans a-swimming" refers to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, under-standing, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.

8th Day: The "eight maids a milking " reminded children of the eight beatitudes listed in the Sermon on the Mount.

9th Day: The "nine ladies dancing" were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit found in Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

10th Day: The "ten lords a-leaping" represents the Ten Commandments.

11th Day: The "eleven pipers piping" refers to the eleven faithful apostles.

12th Day: The 'twelve drummers drumming" were the twelve points of belief expressed in the Apostles' Creed: belief in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, that Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, made man, crucified, died and arose on the third day, that he sits at the right hand of the father and will come again, the resurrection of the dead and life everlasting.
