140 Wartime enamel plate "AW Bombs". These were phosphoros jam jars issued to the Home 120

Guard to throw against tanks. Manufactured by Albright & Wilson at Portishead the plate

was fitted to the wooden box lid containing the jars and carries the necessary instructions.

A former member of "Dads Army" has told us these bombs were very unstable and not

popular after causing several fatalities to our own volunteers.

to the Estimate of Expense and the other Houses of Labouring Classes. Fascinating reading.


162 AVONMOUTH DOCK hand coloured map of the GWR/MR & GWR.MR joint lines dated 34

1916. Slight folds, VGC for one hundred years old.

163 A small shield marked GWR 150 Swindon Works 1985 in polished alloy. 4" x 4.5" showing 20

a loco handlamp, loco wheel, spanner and hammer. These were produced to raise funds

at the proposed Swindon Works Open Day in 1985 to celebrate the GWR 150. This was

cancelled due to the Union members withdrawing their labour when BREL announced the

works would be closing the following year. The vendor's father who was employed in the

works has said most of these were recycled and that these plates were never officially sold

to the general public, making these the rarest of all the alloy collectors plates made at

Swindon.
