Although our industry has been evolving for the last 10 years, the past year has been one of trans-formational change, a change so radical that some say that it rivals Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press in 1440. In addition to the tidal wave of electronic books, reliance on social media, and the not-surprising-but-still shocking collapse of Borders, we are in the midst of economic dis-turbances that rival the 1930’s. Such revolutionary shifts can create chaos and uncertainty, as we have certainly experienced, but they can create oppor-tunities as well. As independent booksellers, we must find these opportunities to grow our busi-nesses and adapt business practices that are unique and perhaps unfamiliar. To succeed in the face

of our business metamorphosis, we need to take advantage of every opportunity to learn from each other by exchanging ideas and information with others who are experiencing the same challenges. At the GLIBA Trade Show you will have a chance to discover what’s new, to meet authors, to connect with other booksellers, sales reps, and publishers, and, I hope, to have a little fun. We have searched out new vendors, and are delighted to welcome back some old friends. We have added some new education sessions, and fine-tuned some of the productive sessions from the past. Please join us at GLIBA as we seize the day, and discover those opportunities together.
