We believe it is normal for Catholics to be missionary disciples!
As Catholic missionary disciples we aspire to… know Jesus Christ personally and live in the power of the Holy Spirit; pray and read the Bible daily; participate in small faith-sharing groups; express contagious faith that attracts others; use our gifts to serve others, especially the poor; be faithful Catholics in belief and behavior; be generous with all of our resources.

A Time of Fast
and abstinence
Fasting
•When do we fast? Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting. • What is required? Fasting means having one full meal to maintain one’s strength. Two smaller meatless meals are permitted ac-cording to one’s needs but they should not equal the one full meal. Eating solid foods between meals is not permitted; however, the drinking of ordinary liquids does not break the fast. • Who is required to fast? Persons between the ages of 18—59 years old Abstinence • When do we abstain? Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday are days of abstinence. • What is required? The law of abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not eggs, the products of milk or Condiments containing animal fat. Permissible are soups flavored with meat, meat gravy and sauces. • Who is required to abstain? Persons 14 and older.
The Numbers Matter Accurate census numbers are crucial for Michiganders across the State. These numbers determine how much federal funding is dispersed for public safety, schools, housing, health care, and more. Unfortunately, research shows low- income people, communities of color, rural communities, and young children are often undercount-ed. Help be a part of the change in Michigan; take the time to ensure you and your neighbors are included in this year’s census! More information is available at: www.micatholic.org/2020Census and www.census.gov.
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT 6 M A RC H 8 , 2 0 2 0
2nd Sunday of Lent “Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.”(Genesis 12:1) God calls all of us to leave behind our old ways and to follow Him, placing our complete trust in Him. Some of the old ways that we may have to struggle to leave behind might be materialism, selfishness, and greed. Yet God promises to show us a new land and a better way to live. Remember what St. Teresa of Calcutta said, “God does not call us to be successful, God calls us to be faithful.” Stewards of the Church In today’s Scripture passage from the Book of Gene-sis, God calls Abram (later Abraham) to a new land, vowing to bless him and make of him a great nation. Abraham faithfully and immediately follows God’s di-rective. In the Gospel from the evangelist St. Mat-thew, Jesus’ divinity is revealed to Peter, James, and John through His Transfiguration on the mountaintop. The Lord directs the disciples to not disclose the vi-sion to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead. They faithfully obey this command. In his Second Letter to Timothy, St. Paul refers to ho-liness: He [God] saved us and called us to a holy life. Church leaders embraced this invitation to holiness at the Second Vatican Council. Pursuing evangelization through Christian stewardship brings us to a closer relationship with Christ. Are we striving to obey God’s will in our lives? And, in this effort, are we striving for holiness? This Lenten season, make a spiritual retreat to open your heart to Jesus. CSA Minute – Lenten Day of Spiritual Reflection All are invited to a Lenten Day of Spiritual Renewal on Saturday, March 14, at St. Joan of Arc Parish in St. Clair Shores. The theme for the day is Reconcili-ation: God’s Mercy Has No End. Lent is a perfect opportunity to reflect on reconciliation, forgiveness and mercy to grow in your relationship with Jesus to live as his dedicated disciple. Presentations will in-clude: Reconciliation by Rev. Joseph Horn, pastor, National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica, Royal Oak; and Divine Mercy by Catherine Lanni, founder of the Divine Mercy Center, Clinton Township. Bish-op Donald Hanchon will celebrate Mass. Reconcilia-tion, individual prayer and lunch are offered. Fee for the day is $10. Visit march14dayofspiritualreflec-tion.eventbrite.com to register for this spiritually-enriching experience. For more information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, go to aod.org.

So have you heard about Chef Gordon Ramsay? Likeable fellow, really. One of his major TV shows (let’s just say MasterChef Junior ©) inspired our Youth Group to have our own cooking competition: Heaven’s Kitchen! We had about 30 members of our group compete by preparing recipes from scratch! They split into five teams and were charged with cooking: Chicken Pot Pie, Taco Lasagna, and Brownies (Peanut Butter, Fudge/Whipped Cream, and Sprinkles). They split up jobs, prepared the food, and then continued with our meeting while the food cooked! Working together, they did an exceptional job! Our three-judge panelist (Fr. Bob, Meaghan and Linda) then considered the taste and presentation of each dish, and they were impressed! One group did win the meat dish entry, but all three brownie recipes were too good to judge a winner! In any event, all of our youth participants did a tremendous job and learned some good leadership kils!
Special thanks to all of my adult volunteers (Meaghan, Linda, Marcy, Chris and Domenic) and to all who help contribute to our Youth Group. Remember- we meet on Sunday nights from 7-9 pm until mid-May and it is open to students in grades 9-12 (plus 8th graders preparing for Confirmation!).
Pray for our youths…they are
very special
and blessed indeed!

Are you looking for a fun project your family can do together this Lent?
For under $20 you can provide 4 meals for a needy family and 1 for your own.
Stop by the Christian Service table after Mass this weekend or next
for instructions.
WE WILL NOT BE RECEIVING DONATIONS TOMORROW MONDAY, MARCH 9, 2020
HELP IS STILL NEEDED
We still need volunteers to help on Fridays 9 am—1pm. This does not have to be a weekly commitment, it can be bi-weekly or monthly. Please pray over this as we really, really, really need a few more people. I am also looking for 1 or 2 gentlemen that can help set up tables and set out our items at 8 am Friday mornings.
On March 14/15 the men from the Capuchin Baking Program, On the Rise Bakery, will be at our parish. The men bring themselves and their products to witness that they are working on both improving their lives and their products. Parish support helps them to achieve these goals. They are thankful to the pastor and the parish for this opportunity.
Be faithful in
small things because
it is in them that
your strength lies.

Holy Family has enlisted Prayer Ministers to pray with people once a month for anything that may be troubling or challenging in their lives. We are available to pray with you AFTER ALL MASSES EVERY FIRST WEEKEND OF THE MONTH
Find us by the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will discreetly gather with you, ask you what you would like us to pray for, and then begin to pray. If anyone feels the need to go to a more private area, we will gladly accommodate you. The apostle Paul encourages us to intercede for each other: “With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:18). Paul also teaches us to “pray without ceasing”
(1 Thessalonians 5:16). I am hoping that the beautiful experience of praying with our fellow parishioners will expand to all Masses with Prayer Ministers at each one every week! If you feel the Holy Spirit calling you to pray for others, do not ignore him. Pray over it. Pray with US over it. Anyone interested in Prayer Ministry should call or email Herb James: [email protected]
248 982-3320 God bless you , Herb James
Pray for one another, that you may be healed.
James 5:16
