    OverviewOverview

In order to ensure that the R/3 System runs correctly and optimally, it is necessary to check the technicalenvironment of the operating system, database, and the R/3 System itself. This chapter describes how tocheck the Windows NT technical environment .

    approximately 256 MB).4. x86 Family 5(a Pentium processor).

    5. Click OK .

Checking the Host NameChecking the Host Name

The host name must be unique and the same name must be used throughout the system. Follow the stepsbelow to view the host name and IP address of an installed R/3 NT Server:

    1. In the Control Panel group, double-click on the Network icon.

    16. Ensure the TCP/IP address andhostname match those found in theNetwork Control Panelabove.

The entry 127.0.0.1 localhost is added by Windows NT automatically duringinstallation and must NOT be deleted. The R/3 system will run significantly slower if thisentry is deleted.

It is recommended to add an alias of the hostname by typing the host name in upper case(for example, PNSFO36).

It is advisable to have an additional comment line after the last item in the HOSTS file. If itis not already there, enter the additional comment (for example, # --Do not deletethis line--) .

    1. In the Control Panel group, double-click on the System icon.

    2. Click on the Virtual Memory...button.

For R/3 version 3.0E , the minimumpaging file size should be threetimes the physical RAM (forexample, 3 x 256 MB = 768 MB) or1.25 GB (1,280 MB) whichever isgreater. Before adjusting the virtualmemory, ensure that you haveenough space on the target drive.Otherwise, you might considerdistributing the paging file overother drives which do not havehigh I/O activity. (Oracle Redo Log

and Data files may have high I/Oactivity.)

    3. Based on the above calculation, setthe Initial Size of the paging file (forexample, 1280 MB).
