    CONNECTION

Glad to be back!By Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior MinisterWhat apleasure it isto be back! Isay that with

all sincerity. Many of youcant believethat we wouldbe thrilled to

be back after all of the exciting adventureswe have had on our sabbatical. It was awonderful time of renewal and comingtogether as a family. I can honestly saythat we had a great time together. I wasworried at first about the boys and howthey would like being cooped up with

Mom and Dad for such an extendedtime, but they seemed to really enjoythemselves. And Beth and I are excitedthat the boys enjoyed the history and

art as much as they did. They are betterRenaissance scholars than I am! Justask them about Caravaggio, Leonardo,Michelangelo and Donatello, and they willfill you in on all the detailsand theyrenot talking about Teenage Mutant NinjaTurtles.

We want to thank the church (andthe Lilly Endowment) for this opportunity. It has been the experience of a lifetimeand we cant wait to share some of ourmemories with you. We do have 5,000

pictures, but dont worry, we wont boreyou with all of those, only a select few.

What I was really excited about wascoming home to a refreshed and renewed

staff and congregation. The RenewalProcess has been a great success and tosee so many who are so fired up aboutour church and its future is worth comingback to. I look forward to all that weare going to do in the futureas well ascelebrating what we have done in thepast. And we are looking forward tosharing some of our experiences with youespecially on October 2. But we wontshare all 5,000 pics at once!!

    The Heart of Giving

God works in many ways. One way weexperience God is through people. Byforming deep, authentic relationships wecare, nurture and affirm one another. These meaningful relationships influenceour lives in a great way. We hold specialrelationships with friends and loved onesvery close to our hearts.

This week you should receive aspecial delivery in the mail from FCCE.In it there is an Extravagant Generosity

publication for you to keep and enjoy which shows some of the ways we welcome people, care for one another, worship God, and grow in our faith andservice. Join us in prayer as we renew ourcommitments to give and serve.

When you extend hospitality to Christianbrothers and sisters, even when they are

strangers, you make the faith visible. (3 John 1:5, The Message)

Join Disciples Womenin Caring For Babies!Infant Crisis Services Selected

    as Fall Service Project

By LaVerne FryIt is hard to imagine that there are babies and toddlers who go to bed hungry inour midst, yet it happens every day right here in central Oklahoma. This fall, ineffort to help alleviate that hunger, First Christian Disciple Women groups will becollecting funds to support the work of Infant Crisis Services in Oklahoma City.

Whether or not you are an active part of any of our Disciples Women groups, you can still join efforts with us as we support the mission of Infant Crisis Services. This agency serves more than 1,000 babies and toddlers in central Oklahomaeach month. They supply life-sustaining formula and food as well as diapers andclothing for babies and toddlers in times of crisis. They bridge the gaps that occurduring critical times in a babys development and because government programslike WIC and DHS dont provide diapers or medically prescribed formulas.

Disciples Women members can give money through their individual groups. If you are not a part of a Disciples Women group, you can donate through thechurch office. Infant Crisis Services will greatly appreciate all donations.
