John 8:1-11

TRAPPEDThe teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him, John 8:2-6

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? … You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

TRAPPED

ATTENTIONBut Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

John 8:6b-8

But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding. 2 Corinthians 10:12 ESV

Let us thrown off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Hebrews 12:1

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Consider him, so that you do not grow weary and lose heart.  Hebrews 12:2, 3

MERCYAt this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman where are they?” Has no one condemned you?” “No one sir,” she said.

For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  John 3:17

There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  Romans 8:1
