REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, DECEMBER 8, 2011
The Board of Trustees:
Approved minutes of previous meeting. Received district audit reports for FY2009 and FY2010 from Mr. Leslie Shivers. Received the monthly financial status report. Heard a report on district facilities and acknowledged completion of the Districts ARRA Project. Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts. Received monthly reports on bus repairs/expenses and the use of school buses for special
events.
Accepted an Exxon Mobil grant in the amount of $500.00 to be used to enhance JeffersonMiddle Schools positive behavioral support program.
Authorized renewal of the agreement between The University of Southern Mississippi andColumbia School District concerning the placement of teacher candidates in educational field
experiences.
Granted authorization to enter into an agreement with HMS Consulting, LLC for Mr. MiltonMatthews, CEO, to provide Federal Programs consulting services and to provide external
evaluations of the 21st
Century Community Learning Center (21st
CCLC) grants for the 2011-2012
school year.
Approved a request for permission for the CHS Varsity Cheerleaders to compete in the UniversalCheerleaders Association National Cheerleading Competition to be held during the dates of
February 9-14, 2012, in Orlando, FL, pending a bid.
Approved requests for authorization to conduct the following fund raiser activities: CHS VarsityCheerleaders - volunteer (bag groceries for donations) at Winn Dixie during December and
January; CHS Baseball Dugout Club - Baseball Camp January 27-28, 2012; CHS Baseball Team -
Coke sale January 23-February 7, 2012; and CHS Powerlifting teams - Lift-a-Thon January 12,
2012.

Accepted the resignation of Doug Norris, teacher/coach at Columbia High School, for thepurpose of retirement, effective December 21, 2011.
Approved the employment of Angela Cagle as a special education teacher at Jefferson MiddleSchool (replacing Grace Beard) pending her release from the Marion County School District and
a current background check as required by State law, effective January 4, 2012; Abigail Arnold as
an after-school worker for the 21st
Century Community Learning Center on an as needed basis at
the certified personnel rate of $25.00 per hour pending the results of a current background
check as required by State law, effective November 29, 2011; Joyce Hover be changed from a
full time bus driver to substitute bus driver, effective November 28, 2011; Monica Stringer be
changed from a substitute bus driver to full time bus driver, effective November 28, 2011; and
Lillie Williams be placed on the cafeteria substitute list pending the results of a current
background check as required by State law for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year.
Discussed a confidential student matter in executive session. Approved the recommendation for a student to be expelled and placed in the Districts Second
Chance School/Alternative Program.
