Every once in a while something happens that amazes me. This
past Sunday we were scheduled for our annual picnic and baptism
service at Thousand Hills State Park. This is our tenth year and we
have never been rained out. The forecast showed a chance of rain, but
nothing major. That afternoon, it poured down rain with lots of lightning and
thunder. Around four in the afternoon, the blackest cloud rolled through, and
the rain followed. At five o’clock, I drove out to the park in a continuous
rain. At the shelter, there were several gathered getting things ready for the
picnic. When I arrived, I anticipated a lot of down faces and deep pessimism
about the prospects for the service and picnic. Instead there was an air of
anticipation. We looked at the radar on our smartphones and thought we
might have a window of opportunity. So, with the rain still falling, the ham-
burgers and hotdogs were put on the grill.
Surrounded by dark clouds we gathered at the beach for the service,
and it and the baptism went off without a hitch. The picnic was then ready,
and we had a great time of celebration, fellowship and of course, eating.
At 4 o’clock that afternoon I was ready to face the prospect of needing to
cancel the event. That was not God’s plan. He gave another weather win-
dow of opportunity, and I believe we may have held one of the best services
to date.
I know God is good, but often His goodness in simply amazing.

THANK YOU!
I want to thank all of our Sunday
School teachers and their assistants.
Without their dedication and willingness
to step up and take a leadership role in
the area of teaching, our church would
be lacking in the education department.
We recently have had some new
teachers come on board, and I am so
grateful for them filling in the gaps.
Some of you may not realize the
hours of preparation every week that our
teachers do in order to be prepared for
class. I would encourage all class
members to read their lesson every
week. That way, you will be prepared,
be familiar with the material the teacher
is presenting, and you can more
effectively engage in class participation.
And remember to pray for your class
and teachers. If you aren’t already a
member of a Sunday School class, see
me and we can find a good fit for you.
So, please give a big thank you to the
Sunday School teachers you encounter.
I’m sure it will brighten their day!
Thank you teachers and assistants!!
See you in Sunday School!

5:30 pm: Asian supper
6:00 pm: Missions Share TimeOn Sunday July 13 we will kick off our Missions Extravaganza with an Asian
Meal prepared by several Truman students from different places from Asia. It
will be a great time to meet some people from the other side of the world as well
as taste some real Asian food! Greg Xander is heading this part up! There is a
sign-up sheet in the foyer so we can have a general idea how much food needs to
be prepared.
Then, we will hear from Mae Crawford, who is a Truman student who worked
at a university in an Asian country while sharing the Gospel. Mae spent 7 weeks
in East Asia last summer with CRU and is getting ready to return to East Asia for
a year.
Our own Dana Marshall will be sharing about her trip to the Philippines when
she went with Samaritan’s Purse. Then you will hear about HSBC’s trip to
Omaha, Nebraska. It will be an evening you won’t want to miss!

The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by fulfilling the Great Commandment
(36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your
neighbor as yourself.’ 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40)
and the Great Commission
(18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey every-
thing I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20).
LOOKING FOR SOME NEW
CHOIR MEMBERS!
The Marine Corp has a saying: “We
are looking for a few good men.” Well,
I am looking for a few new choir
members. Choir meets on Sunday’s at
5:00 p.m. and practice lasts for only 45
minutes. If you feel led to join us, we
will resume regular practices on Sunday,
August 3.
We have a good time of fellowship,
prayer, and singing during practices. So,
come and check us out. You just might
find that you like it!
Also, I want to remind everyone that
Senior Songsters will be performing their
summer patriotic cantata at HSBC on
Sunday, July 6, at 6:00 p.m. Several
members of the choir are HSBC
members, so please plan to come. It’s
all about America! The songs we
sing…the land we love. I promise that
you will enjoy this presentation!
See you in worship! Ben Austic,Ben Austic,Ben Austic,Ben Austic,Ben Austic, 11am Music Minister
Sometimes the beauty of a song is
not found in its soaring melodies, driving
rhythms or rich harmonies. Sometimes
the lyrics stand on their own.
“Man of Sorrows”, written by
Brooke Ligertwood and Matt Crocker,
is a new song in our second-service
repertoire. It is a plain song. It has no
catchy melody. It doesn’t build to a
dynamic crescendo. It’s not a song
designed to grab your emotions.
Interesting, isn’t it?... That’s how
Jesus was described in Isaiah 53:2b. “He
didn’t have an impressive form or
majesty that we should look at Him, no
appearance that we should desire Him.”
He was plain. He was not fancy. He was
much like this song.
I hope that this song will become one
of our standards here at Hamilton Street.
I hope that you enjoy its simple richness
as much as I do.
MAN OF SORROWS
Words and Music by Brooke
Ligertwood and Matt Crocker
Verse
Man of sorrows Lamb of God
By His own betrayed
The sin of man and wrath of God
Has been on Jesus laid
Silent as He stood accused
Beaten mocked and scorned
Bowing to the Father’s will
He took a crown of thorns
Chorus
Oh that rugged cross
My salvation
Where Your love poured out over me
Now my soul cries out
Hallelujah
Praise and honor unto Thee
Verse
Sent of heaven God’s own Son
To purchase and redeem
And reconcile the very ones
Who nailed Him to that tree
Bridge
Now my debt is paid
It is paid in full
By the precious blood
That my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin
Has no hold on me
Whom the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
Verse
See the stone is rolled away
Behold the empty tomb
Hallelujah God be praised
He’s risen from the grave

In Sunday School we are studying
the book of Ezekiel. In chapter 8, God’s
spirit takes Ezekiel from Babylon to
Jerusalem to see what is going on. He
went to the temple, and was told to see
what is going on. “So I went in and
looked and I saw portrayed all over the
walls all kinds of crawling things and
detestable animals and all the idols of
the house of Israel. In front of them
stood seventy elders of the house of
Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan
was standing among them. Each had a
censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud
of incense was rising.” (v 10-11).
Ezekiel was horrified at what we saw,
but he makes note of one person. Who
is this Jaazaniah son of Shaphan?
Before we can answer that, we need
to know who Shaphan is, and for that,
we need to go to 2 Kings 22. There we
see that Shaphan was the secretary to
King Josiah. Josiah sent Shaphan to the
temple to talk to the priest, and the priest
told Shaphan that while cleaning the
temple they found the Book of the Law.
Shaphan was the person who read the
scroll to King Josiah. Josiah was upset,
and realized how far the country had
turned from God. A revival broke out
during the time of Josiah, but it was too
late. Not too long afterwards Josiah was
killed in battle. About 14 years later the
King of Babylon came and took
prisoners, amongst who was Ezekiel.
So who was Jaazaniah? He was the
son of the secretary of the king.
Jaazaniah witnessed a great turning to
God. Yet, he got so busy that he forgot
to pass the faith along to his son. There
is significance to his name being
mentioned, as it shows how quickly the
faith can be lost within a generation. It
wasn’t like there wasn’t anyone
speaking the Word of the Lord.
Jeremiah was in Jerusalem encouraging
the people to be faithful to the Lord, and
yet pronouncing that judgment was
coming because the people had turned
from the Lord. The Jewish people were
religious, but other gods seemed more
interesting and stronger than the one true
God.
Let’s be in prayer for our families as
they attempt to be intentional and
relevant in passing along the faith. It’s
not easy. There are many other things
that seem stronger and more interesting
than the one true God. God at times is
made out to be a relic of ancient
mythology, and we need to be sure that
we are counteracting that. We need to
find ways to share our faith with the next
generation, so we don’t have more
Jaazaniah’s who give lip service to God
but in reality don’t know Him in their
hearts.

TTTTTony Kony Kony Kony Kony Keene, eene, eene, eene, eene, Youth Minister
I have written on this text in the past,
but I feel it is worth mentioning again.
1Timothy 4:12 states, “Don’t let anyone
look down on you because you are
young, but set an example for the
believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith,
and in purity.” Paul is encouraging
Timothy to be the right kind of example,
not only to his peers, but also to his
elders.
I realize that Timothy was not a
teenager at this point; most likely he
would have been in his early to mid-
thirties, but the context of Paul’s message
here is just as valid for our teenagers
today. In a culture that is over saturated
with celebrities gone wild, it is so
refreshing to spend several hours a week
with the Youth of HSBC who are
genuinely seeking God in their lives. We
have many who have been Christians for
some time and we have several who are
still trying to figure it all out. The
increasing depth of our Bible studies and
the growing maturity of our kids continue
to encourage me.
We have many in our group that are
showing themselves to be talented
musicians, some who are aspiring
theologians, and many others who are
encouragers and friend-makers. I look
at our Youth and while I grieve many of
the issues they face in today’s culture, I
see them being the examples that Paul
challenged Timothy to be; that God
challenges us all to be. May God
continue to bless the Youth of HSBC.
Talking to your
Child about SexSunday, July 27 @ 9:45am
in the Fellowship Hall
Led by
Sarah Mack and Tabitha Cleaver
When and how should we tell our
children about the “birds and the bees”?
If we wait until they are teenagers, we
have probably waited too long.
In today’s sex saturated culture, we
can’t afford to wait, as they will pick up
messages that probably aren’t from a
Christian perspective. Sarah and Tabitha
will introduce you to some resources that
are age appropriate, come from a
Christian perspective, and reinforce
concepts such as marriage between a
man and a woman, and sex is for
marriage.
There are several levels, and they
are designed to start with children as
young as 5 years old. This is a great
class for parents who have kids between
the ages of 5 years old to 11 years old
and would like some help in this topic.
URGENT CALL TO PRAYERfrom
Anne Graham Lotz
Blow the trumpet…sound the
alarm…for the day of the Lord is
coming. It is close at hand— Rend
your heart and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God…
~Joel 2:1, 13
Join Anne Graham Lotz and
thousands of other followers of Jesus
Christ across our nation and around the
world, as together we return to the Lord
our God, rend our hearts, repent of our
sin, and cry out to God for His mercy on
behalf of our nation. Before it’s too late.
Pray! in the 7th month, July
Pray! on each of the first 7 days of July
Pray! and fast on July 7th for 7 hours
(of your choosing)
The Purpose:
• For God the Father to restrain,
protect, and deliver His people from the
evil that has come into our world.
• For God the Son to be exalted,
magnified, and glorified in His church,
in our nation, and in our lives.
• For God the Holy Spirit to fall on us
in a fresh way, compelling the church to
repent of sin and our nation to return to
faith in the living God, resulting in a great
national spiritual awakening.
Who is going on the mission trip?
What will we be doing? Eight families
from our church will be going. Our main
focus will be with the Prince of Peace
Baptist Church in northern Omaha,
which is a predominantly African-
American church.
On Sunday, July 6, we will join them
in their morning worship, and then that
evening we will help with a Block Party.
Then July 7-10, we will be putting
on a VBS from 6-7:30 for children, teens
and adults. There will be supper provided
for everyone afterwards.
During the day there will be two
other options. There is some light
construction work that needs to be done
at the Prince of Peace Baptist Church.
We will also be assisting a church
start called Changed Life Church and
we will be assisting them in handing out
material or other items to get word out
that they exist.
Be praying for this church start that
is only about 1 year old. Also, be praying
for safe travel and that we will be
prepared to share God’s Word with
anyone that God brings our way.

PRAY that many children and families
would learn about and attend our VBS
so they can hear the good news about
Jesus Christ.
ASK God for wisdom to know who you
should invite.
PRAY that the Holy Spirit will be drawing
unbelievers to Himself.
PRAY for our VBS director, Lisa King–
that she would have all the help
necessary to get VBS off the ground
and rolling.
ASK God if He wants you to help with
VBS. Children and adults are
encouraged by our examples in serving
and learning.
PRAY for the many VBS volunteers at
our church– that they would experience

God while preparing lessons, music,
snacks, decorations, etc. and that they
would have wisdom in leading kids to
Christ.
PRAY that God will give our teachers and
assistants wisdom, patience, and
good health.
PRAY for good weather, cool temps and
dry skies.
ASK GOD to provide inspiration for
eye-catching decorations.
ASK GOD to help recreation leaders play
games that honor Him and each student.
PRAY for Bible study leaders. Ask for
God’s guidance as they prepare their
lessons and for boldness to share with
boys and girls, and teenagers how to have
a personal relationship with Christ.
PRAY for VBS participants who will
attend our church for the first time. Pray
that God will help them find love and
acceptance.
PRAY for music and missions leaders.
Pray that God will touch hearts through
the music. Pray that people will learn
about missions and how they can
be involved.
PRAY for crafts, recreation, and snack
leaders to be filled with joy and
enthusiasm. Many participants build
relationships as they play games,
complete crafts, or fellowship
around snacks.
PRAY for effective follow up with
unchurched children and families after
the VBS decorations have been packed
away.
