Should we learn about the Proton Treatment Method?

Wobbling? Scanning?What  is  the  difference  between  

the  two?

The  proton  beam  that  is  produced  from  the  accelerator  

has  a  thickness  of  about 3mm

However,  the  size  of  the  tumor  are  all  different

Therefore,    

the  size  of  the  proton  beam  has  be  adjusted  to  the  size  of  the  tumor

But  how? Depending  on  how  the  proton  beam  is  used,  

the  proton  treatment  method  is  divided  in  two  ways

First, the  Wobblingmethod

The  proton  beam  comes  in  contact  with  a  thin  plate  to  become  

expanded  and  it  is  a  method  used  to  treat  large  tumor  sites

Second, the  Scanning  method

By  dividing  up  the  energy  intensity  of  the  proton  beam  

from  several  into  several  hundred,  

it  is  a  method  that  accurately  applies  the  proton  beam  

to  the  corresponding  size  of  the  tumor

to  facilitate  a  more  precise  treatment

Wobbling  Method

Using  the  block  and  compensator,  transfer  the  expanded  proton  beam  to  

the  corresponding  tumor  shape

Scanning  Method

Proton  beam  of  a  pencil  thickness  transferred  to  the  corresponding  tumor  shape

The  Scanning  method,  in  comparison  to  the  Wobbling  method,   it  has  an  advantage  of  

transferring  sufficient  amount  of  radiation  to  the  tumor  while  minimizing  radiation  exposure  to  the  surrounding  normal  tissues  to  decrease  the  

development  of  side  effects.

Particularly,radiation  can  be  accurately  transferred  to  tumor  according  to  its  shape.  

Therefore,  it  can  be  regarded  as  the  most  exquisite  proton  treatment  method.
