A publication of First Christian Church of Edmond, OK
CONNECTIONVol. 5 No. 27 July 11, 2013
This Saturday,
July 13, marks
the beginning
of the General
Assembly ofthe Christian
Church
(Disciples of Christ) in Orlando, Florida.
I will be attending the Assembly and
sharing the experience with you when
I return. As many of you know, our
General Church meets every two
years for a gathering of fellowship,
worship, idea-sharing, business and
fun. The Disciples are a great bunch
to get together because we are like an
overgrown family; we have connectionsall over the place.
One important aspect of the
Assembly is that it reminds us that we
are not a lone church. Our ministry
extends beyond the boundaries of 201
E. 2nd Street and into the world. We
join with other committed Disciples
nationwide to do many vital and
meaningful ministries.
One of the ministries that will be
lifted up at this years Assembly
is our Global Ministries. We havemany global mission partners spread
throughout our world, reaching
out in the name of Jesus Christ.
We are going to hear many great
stories at the Assembly, and Global
Ministries is producing some moving
videos that can be shared with our
congregation. The videos should be
posted soon on the Global Ministries
website at: www.globalministries.
orgso you can periodically check it
out to see the latest. The focus this year will be on the
Congo. Did you know that there are
more Disciples in the Congo than there
are in the United States? It is a church
on fire and doing wonderful work. I
know that our brothers and sisters in
Congo lift up the American church in
their prayers, just as we should be
lifting up their work in our prayers.
One of the initiatives our church has
been involved with is a micro-lending
program giving economic opportunity
to new entrepreneurs in that country.
Most of the recipients are women
who turn the profit into educational
opportunities for their children.
Disciples - An Overgrown FamilyBy Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister
These are truly inspirational stories.
Youll be hearing more about the
General Assembly in the future, but I
invite you to keep up with it by visitingour General churchs website at
www.disciples.org. Meanwhile,
pray for our church to be inspired
and dedicated to the work of Christ as
we gather in Orlando. And lift up the
work of our brothers and sisters in the
Congoespecially those leaders who
will be making the long trek to join us
for the Assembly.

A huge thank you to all who helped with and/or donated money, food items,

Special thanks to Mark Nash who made arrangements for the donation
of the hot dogs, picked them up in Clinton, OK,
brought them to Edmond, and cooked them
(along with Steve and Jared Allison) in the big
smoker which Mark also arranged, picked up, cleaned and returned.
Special acknowledgement for Ross & Donetta Herndon and Donna Combs for so muchof the behind the scenes work. They planned, purchased, coordinated, double-checked and

Attention All First Christian
Church Key Holders:
All entry door locks - for the main church building and the Family Life Center
- have been changed (with the exception of the exterior door to BOB - it is the
same). This means the keys will no longer work on exterior doors. Access to
the exterior doors will be limited to access entry codes, access cards or fobs only.
Access entry codes or cards are distributed by FCCEs Business Administrator, KarlaMahan.
All interior locks will remain the same. So, those with a key should keep their
keys for the doors to the classrooms and closets in each building.
Also, for security purposes, please do not unlock exterior doors for your
meetings. Participants in your meetings can be given the access entry codes. They
will work only during your meeting times, and allow access to the building for all
your participants.
If you previously had an entry key, you should have received an access code,
card or new fob from the office. If you did not receive a code or if you have
questions, contact Karla Mahan at 341-3544 or [email protected]
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
