APRIL 2013 « IEEE CONTROL SYSTEMS MAGAZINE 21 New Edition of CSS’s “The Impact of Control Technology” Report PUBLICATION ACTIVITIES « I n 2011 the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) published a report titled “The Impact of Control Tech- nology” that was edited by Tariq Samad and Anuradha Annaswamy (as discussed in IEEE Control Systems Magazine, vol. 31, no. 5, pp. 26–27, Octo- ber 2011). This report is available free of charge at www.ieeecss.org/main/ IoCT-report. Now the Society is spon- soring the preparation of a new and revised edition. The new report will also be freely available on the CSS Web site. In addition, a print version is expected to be available for purchase. The new edition will consist entirely of two-page flyers in “Success Stories” and “Research Challenges” sections (these were Parts 2 and 4 in the original). These sections were a novel and especially popular feature of the original report. We invite contributions from all CSS members and IEEE Control Systems Magazine readers to the new edition: » “Success Stories” flyers should highlight practical successes of advanced control technology. Some documentation of soci- etal/industrial benefit should be included. » “Research Challenges” flyers should highlight opportunities for future impact through advances in control research. These flyers are intended to inspire control researchers and to exemplify the accomplishments and the prom- ise of our field to those not already immersed in it. Thus the audience is not solely control engineers and scientists. Content should be pre- pared accordingly. If you are interested in contribut- ing, please contact the report editors at [email protected] and [email protected] immediately. The editors will need the text and graphic content in an approxi- mate two-page format—please see Parts 2 and 4 of the report for exam- ples. Polished material is not required; the final layout will be done by a public relations and advertising agency with your review/approval. Our goal in this undertaking is to help promote our field, both to those in it already and to those who are not. If you share this vision we would like to hear from you as soon as possible! I n 2011 the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) published a report titled “The Impact of Control Tech-

We invite contributions from all CSS members and IEEE Control Systems Magazine readers to the new edition:

» “Success Stories” flyers should highlight practical successes of

advanced control technology. Some documentation of soci-etal/industrial benefit should be included.

» “Research Challenges” flyers should highlight opportunities for future impact through advances in control research.

These flyers are intended to inspire control researchers and to exemplify

the accomplishments and the prom-ise of our field to those not already immersed in it. Thus the audience is not solely control engineers and scientists. Content should be pre-pared accordingly.

If you are interested in contribut-ing, please contact the report editors at [email protected] and [email protected]

immediately. The editors will need the text and graphic content in an approxi-mate two-page format—please see Parts 2 and 4 of the report for exam-ples. Polished material is not required; the final layout will be done by a public relations and advertising agency with your review/approval.

Our goal in this undertaking is to help promote our field, both to

those in it already and to those who are not. If you share this vision we would like to hear from you as soon as possible!
