JULY. 2020, ISSUE 3 . Your monthly newsletter August 2020 Over the last month The Connected Communities Team has been busy making connections in the local communities we work within. As more of us are starting to emerge from lockdown we have been able to get out a little more. We have had socially distanced meetings with a range of partners such as HOUR Community in Framlingham, fellow Community Connectors, Colleagues from the Community Teams at East Suffolk Council to mention just a few. As a team we are well aware that we can only offer the best service to our participants if we have the knowledge and connections with existing services. We would love to get to know as many of the community services, business and residents within our communities as possible. If you live or work within Wickham Market, Framlingham and surrounding areas, Deben and Woodbridge or the rural areas of East and West Waveney then please do get in touch with us. We are also planning for our mobile home "Vincent Van Go" to go out on the road and visit communities. If you would like Vincent to visit your community then please do let us know. "Vincent" will soon be decorated with our logos so please look out for him on a road near you soon! . @SocPrescribeSFC Ou 01473 835477 [email protected]

The Power of petsThe 8th of August was International Cat Day, acelebration of our feline friends. This made usthink about the power our pets have on ourhealth and wellbeing, especially when tacklingissues of loneliness. The Mental HealthFoundation produced some research with CatsProtection in 2011 and found that "87% ofpeople who owned a cat felt it had a positiveimpact on their wellbeing, while 76% said theycould cope with everyday life much betterthanks to the company of their feline friends"(www.mentalhealth.org.uk) It is wellrecognised that having a pet in the home canhelp with feelings of depression, low moodand lonliness. There are now evenorganisations such as Borrow My Doggy whomatch those wanting to spend time with dogswith busy dog owners. Although owning a petwill not be for everyone it can be a significantpart of keeping mentally well. We would loveto hear how your pet has helped you, why notemail us a photo and story about your furryfriend. To get started we would like tointroduce you to Monty who lives with Ian ourSenior Community Connector and has becomea team mascot after featuring in various onlineteam meetings over the last few months.

Since the start of lockdown at the end ofMarch, we’ve seen amazing results in St Mary’sChurchyard in Bungay, and Holy TrinityChurchyard in Blythburgh, with copious varietiesof wildflowers and insects establishingthemselves in the unmown grasses”(www.waveneyandblytharts.com) Waveney andBlyth Arts are now able to offer family friendlyonline video workshops showing you all aboutBioBlitz Art. They are all free thanks to fundingfrom Suffolk Coast AONB.
