SAUDIA Celebrated Record April

Overall, the airline carried more than 10 million flyers since the beginning of the year, already achieving a third of the total 2016 figure of 30 million passengers, which is in line with the company’s continuing expansion across its route and fleet networks. Investment strategies have successfully boosted demand across the carrier’s international sectors, reflecting im-

proved onboard offerings and technological applications. Moreover, increased capacity on existing routes and new destinations have also been added to the airline’s portfolio this year.

IATA Recorded Freight Growth

In March, freight tonne kilometres soared 14 percent year-on-year and avail-able freight tonne kilometres rose 4.2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2016, according to International Air Transport Association (IATA).

With the exception of Latin America, all regions reported growth in demand for the period under review, with airlines in the Middle East reporting a 16.3 percent increase in freight volume in March and a 2.7 percent boost in capacity.

Alexandre de Juniac, CEO, IATA, commented, “March capped a robust first quarter with the strongest year-on-year air freight growth in six-and-a-half years. […] It remains critical to use the im-provement in the industry’s fortunes as an opportunity to enhance the value offering by implementing modern customer-centric initiatives that streamline processes and reduce costs.”

Saudia Airlines achieved a new single month record in April when 2,906,070 passengers travelled on board its aircrafts, confirming the carrier’s consistent growth.

WHAT MAKES SHARJAH SO POPULAR AMONG FAMILIES.

Sharjah Science Museum, Maritime Mu-seum and Al Noor Island are amongst the popular attractions in the city and a great way to spend the day. The hotel is set to expand its number of rooms and amenities which is something both business and leisure travellers can look forward to.

TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: How is busi-ness so far this year?

ALPER CAN BULCUM: Overall we are ex-periencing short-term bookings, which has also been the case in the past. We find that business levels are similar to that of 2016, with the reason being that the amount of hotels have increased in all emirates, including Sharjah, Ajman, Ras al Khaimah and Dubai, thus giving guests the option to book hotels de-pending on their budgets and require-ments.

family visits, be it educational or enter-tainment. The emirate revives history in modern context, with a combination of art and science museums, amusement and water parks, aquariums, restaurants and cafes, retail outlets as well as tradi-tional and contemporary markets. With the launch of the Sharjah My Family Destination and Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 drawing close, several ecotour-ism, heritage and cultural projects are in motion.

ALPER CAN BULCUM: Ramada Sharjah frequently has families visiting and the property has recently been awarded 2017 Travellers Choice award for Families by TripAdvisor.

We offer our guests the options to book our spacious deluxe rooms […] or even one- and two-bedroom suites depending on their requirements and duration of stay. The suites also include fully equipped kitchen, laundry rooms and other amenities to cover all require-ments a family might need. We also have a childrens’ pool available for our young visitors and if they wish to [seek] additional entertainment, Sahara Mall, which is connected by a footbridge to Ramada Sharjah, home to Adventureland, one of the leading and biggest indoor theme parks in the UAE, [offering numerous] entertainment op-tions for all ages.

TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: In your opin-ion, what sets Sharjah apart from other family oriented destinations?

ALPER CAN BULCUM: Sharjah […] has so much to offer without the frills and fancies the modern world likes to lace everything in. There are beautiful beaches and realistically priced attrac-tions in a safe and welcoming family-friendly environment. What I find makes Sharjah particularly attractive is that it offers an authentic Arab atmosphere complemented by urban infrastructure and modern facilities, making it one of the most preferred family destinations.

TRAVEL TRADE WEEKLY: What are the most popular attractions for families?

ALPER CAN BULCUM: There are plenty of family activities in Sharjah that both adults and children will enjoy. Al Mon-tazah Amusement and Water Park,
