Architecture Subcommittee Background

• Formed as a subcommittee of the ZigBee Technical Steering Committee in February 2003– Representatives on the Subcommittee from each Working

Group plus selected at-large members

• Responsibilities:– Address open architecture issues emanating from the

Working Groups– Create an overall ZigBee Protocol Architecture Overview– Work with Marketing to understand/decompose market

requirements to technical requirements– Summarize and manage costs for the entire protocol

solution

Address Market Requirements and Manage Complexity and Cost

• Low cost system solution– Support and manage reduced function/full

function device mix– Highlight technology tradeoffs, recommend

uses of the protocol to address markets

• Maintain Cost Analysis document as a repository for typical solution sizes

• Define optimizations to lower costs
