About Melaka Bus Terminal

The Ma lacca Centra l Bus Termina l p roject is the result of a design &

build c ompetition organized by the Ma lacca State Government in

Novemb er 2002. and c omp leted in 2004.

Bus Termina l tha t c an house a minimum o f 100 intersta te c oac hand town buses .

The use o f both trad itiona l Mela ka Ma lay house features

and mo dern design highly enc ourage d.

The site is a 20-ac re p iece o f land .

West, intersta te coac h termina l, a loc a l town bus termina l, a taxi

c entral 40-foo t wide c orridor whic h is flanked on b oth sides by shops.

The use of steel and light weight struc tures a lso help s to reinforce

the feeling o f spac iousness and p rovides a bac kdrop to the hustle

and b ustle of passengers queuing for tick ets and rushing for buses.

The interp lay of light and shadow from the c irc ula r roof fuelled b y

the mo tion of passeng ers is d rama tic , mo re so a ided by the na tura l

light emanating from the c entre c ourtyard , with hollow-sec tioned

steel memb ers b ranching o ff from p rima ry columns to meet the

noda l junc tions of the la ttic ed trusses like the b ranc hes of a tree. S
