Next weekend we begin the season of Advent. The de3sign of our parish “wreath” this year invites you to use your imagination. We hope that you will be able to envision in your mind’s eye the circular shape of the wreath that joins the four distinct, unjoined candles together. Our hope is that this will engage you in a meditation each week of God’s complete and unending love for us that invisibly and often unperceptively joins us together as community.

We invite you to create your own Advent wreath of four candles at home and to enter into its symbolic nature.

We will bless our wreath on the first weekend of Advent with the following words and invite you to bless yours as well: Blessed are you, O God. You sent your Son to be the Light of the world and to spread his light of love to all. Pour forth your blessing upon us as we light the candles of this wreath. May its growing brightness remind us of the approaching nearness of your Son, so that the day of His coming may find us prepared and filled with joy in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

As we light the church candles each week we will pray the fol3lowing and we invite you to do so at home:First Sunday of Advent:

Wonderful God of light, as we prepare for the coming of Jesus, may our hearts and lives be filled with wonder and praise. May the spirit of peace and love, which Jesus brought into the world, touch our family. May we be renewed and strengthened in these gifts—in our hearts, in our minds, in all of our actions. Amen. (Light one candle).Second Sunday of Advent:

Generous God of light, we have been baptized into our family in Jesus the Christ whose coming we prepare to cele3brate. During this holy season, may we empty our hearts and minds of selfish intentions so that being filled with your light we might celebrate your presence in each other and serve each other generously. Amen. (Light two candles).Third Sunday of Advent:

Merciful God of light, it is in your love that we find lasting joy. Through prayer and kind service may we prepare ourselves for the gift of peace and joy you want to give us. Help us to have generous, unselfish and forgiving hearts so that with joy we herald your coming to all that we meet. Amen. (Light three

Dear Parishioners of Saint Ignatius,

Greetings from Xavier High School in Micronesia.

Thank you very much for allowing me to come and pray with you on Sunday, November 5th. It was a privilege to be back in Boston with you, at the parish where I learned how to celebrate Mass. Thank you for having me and welcoming me back.

With your generosity from the second collections taken at each Mass that weekend, we were able to raise $10,000 for our school here in the missions. I was overwhelmed by your willingness to help us provide a Jesuit education for students you likely will never meet, in a place with which you were likely unfamiliar. Without the kindness of so many, such an education would be impossible for our very deserving students here. I wish I could thank you each individually and personally, but I hope this message conveys how grateful we are.

Please know of our prayers for you.

Thank you, once again.

For Xavier,

President

Loving God of light, you reveal your love to us in the gift of Jesus. Help us to reveal that love to the friendless, the sick, the suffering, and the poor among us. Help us to be—and to see—the face of Jesus in one another. Amen. (Light four candles).Happy Advent!
