ELIGIBILITY · Former 1st prize winners of the Junior/Elementary Competitions are ineligible.

· Junior competitors must be 11 years of age and not older than 14 years of age by the competition date.

· Elementary competitors must be 5 years of age and not older than 10 years of age by the competition date.

· Competitors must be a U.S. citizen and must have been a resident for no less than one calendar year from the date of the competition and be a current resident of one of the following Kentucky counties: Bath, Bell, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Clay, Elliot, Estill, Fayette, Fleming, Floyd, Greenup, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lewis, Madison, Mago!n, Martin, McCreary, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Powell, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Rowan, Wayne, Whitley, and Wolfe.

APPLICATION· Completed applications consist of: a) An o!cial application form b) A veri"cation statement signed by an academic o!cial of the competitor’s current school c) A non-refundable application fee of $10

· All application materials must be completed and postmarked by February 1 of current competion year. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

· Applications must be printed neatly or typed.

· An appropriate academic o!cial, such as a principal or guidance counselor, must certify veri"cation of age and residency.

REPERTOIREGeneral Considerations· Repertoire should be chosen to accentuate the strengths of each contestant. Please do not attempt repertoire that is too di!cult. #is competition seeks a winner based on much more than technical ability or level.

· All repertoire submissions must be detailed and accurate, including speci"c movements of works, timings, composers’ birth and death (if applicable) dates, and composition dates.

· Competitors must play the competition program from memory.

· Works that require accompaniment, such as concertos, are not acceptable.

· Junior competitors will be given 15 minutes of performing time. Repertoire submitted may be greater than 15 minutes, but the

competitor will be stopped after a period of 15 minutes of performance.

· Elementary competitors will be given 10 minutes of performing time. Repertoire submitted may be greater than 10 minutes, but the competitor will be stopped after a period of 10 minutes of performance.

· #e adjudicator(s) reserves the right to stop the competitor during performance due to time limitations.

· Original scores must be submitted to the adjudicator prior to the performance time with all measures clearly numbered. PHOTOCOPIES ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

Romantic, 20th Century).

Elementary Competition Requirements · Two contrasting works from the standard classical repertory (i.e. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century).

AWARDSAll decisions made by the adjudicator are "nal. #e adjudicator reserves the right to declare no winner in any or all of the categories. Prizes will be awarded to three competitors.
