  • 23 Sealing Outdoor ConnectorsTo prevent outdoor cables from aging and to maintain their stable performance, you need to sealthe outdoor connectors. This topic illustrates how to seal an outdoor feeder connector.

Prerequisitel The materials required for sealing the outdoor connector are ready. The materials are PVC

insulating tape and waterproof tape, as shown in Figure 23-1.

l The tools, such as scissors, required for sealing the outdoor connector are ready.l The feeder connector to be sealed has passed the Voltage Standing-Wave Ratio (VSWR)

    test.

ProcedureStep 1 Wrap the connector by using waterproof tape, as shown in Figure 23-2.

    1. Wrap the connector from the point 20 mm [0.79 in.] away from the end of the connectorto the point 20 mm [0.79 in.] away from the other end of the connector.

    2. Do not cut off the waterproof tape and continue to wrap the connector for the second andthird time.

    3. After the connector is wrapped three times, cut off the waterproof tape.

CAUTIONl Ensure that each layer covers at least 50% surface of the layer below it.l Stretch the waterproof tape evenly to 1/2 of its original width so that it clings properly to the

    connector.

Step 2 Hold and press the wrapped waterproof tape to ensure that the connector is tightly and evenlywrapped, as shown in Figure 23-3.

Step 3 Wrap the connector by using PVC insulating tape, as shown in Figure 23-4.1. Wrap the connector and ensure that the PVC insulating tape completely covers the

waterproof tape and extends beyond the waterproof tape by 20 mm [0.79 in.] at both ends.2. Do not cut off the PVC insulating tape and continue to wrap the connector for the second

    and third time.
