The Golden Age of Islam
By Ryan Frederick
Economic Achievements• One important economic achievement of the Islamic Golden Age is the
discovery of paper. • Paper was much easier and faster to prepare than parchment or papyrus,
making writings much more accessible, thus paper use spread quickly.• Shops began to sell paper and books and business was done using a form
of credit that is similar to the modern day check.
Intellectual Achievements• Arabesques were an intellectual achievement of the Islamic
Golden Age.• Arabesques were very intricate floral designs on pottery,
textile, paper manuscripts, and even buildings.• Muhammad’s teaching included a restriction against using
human figures to represent their faith, so you do not see many people in Islamic art.
Social Achievements• The Quar’an was a social achievement that encouraged the
Islamic people to learn as much as possible during their lives.• The Islamic people did not seek to destroy people and
property in areas they conquered, however instead they learned more about the people and their culture.
Political Achievements
• As the Arabic empire grew, the language and laws of the land spread along with it’s borders which allowed clear communication and increased trade throughout the realm.
