Shoot the Elements and Principals of Design

Project #1

Directions: You will be taking 12 separate photographs, one for each Element and one for each Principal of Design. Your images will focus on design and composition of the images. Finally you will be filling out the chart below to track your completion of requirements.

TIPS: REMEMBER THE FOLLOWING TIPS 1. Choose the kind of picture you want first

2. Look at your Elements and Principals of Design handout for descriptions.

3. Remember RULE OF THIRDS when shooting!!!! Never shoot dead center!!!!

REQUIREMENTS/RUBRIC - 12 TOTAL PHOTOGRAPHS one for each element AND for each principal.

Description of photographs:

1. Photos labeled with photo description in a folder on your desktop.

Contrast:Opposites. Elements and principals in the image contrast or contradict each other.

Balance:The distribution of weight of objects. Objects balance each other out. Negative space, white space or blank space also counts as an object with weight.Movement /Rhythm:The illusion of movement is created using elements of design.Pattern/Repetition:Images are repeated and alternated. Unity:All elements in photo are connected. elements lead the eye from one place to another in the image. This connection creates a “visually pleasing” photograph, making it comfortable for the eye to view. Emphasis:Point out or emphasize objects or ideas in an image.
