•Space- The illusion of distance is created by the use of perspective. Objects in the foreground are larger than objects in the background.

PRINCIPALS OF DESIGNAll art has these “ideas” or concepts imbedded into them. These ideas are expressed using the Elements of Design.

DEFINITION EXAMPLE

•Emphasis Elements of design are used to emphasize objects or ideas in an image.

•Contrast-Opposites. Elements and principals in the image contrast or contradict each other.

•Movement The illusion of movement is created using elements of design.

•Pattern-Images are repeated and alternated.

•Balance- The distribution of weight of objects. Objects balance each other out. Negative space, white space or blank space also counts as an object that has weight.

•Rhythm Objects in an image are in organized movement-like dancing. This may include the use of alternating and repeating lines and shapes.

•Unity- All elements in photo are connected. elements lead the eye from one place to another in the image. This connection creates a “visually pleasing” photograph, making it comfortable for the eye to view.

COMPOSITION

Rule of Thirds

Composition refers to how you place or “compose” objects in your image or field of view. Use the Rule of Thirds to compose your objects for an interesting photograph. NEVER PLACE OBJECTS DEAD CENTER…ITS DEAD FOR A REASON…
